Who's listening to FM Tonight? What tuner?

Rockbox - Not sure what a 'spit ear wall antenna' may be, but suggest you get a rabbit-ear antenna and try that. Probably $10-15 at your local Radio Shack. Best Buy may also carry. The best thing would be a 6-element FM-specific yagi, if you have the room to install. My first yagi was bolted to the ceiling of my basement listening room. Not the optimum placement (now have a pair of them in my attic crawl-space), but it was a start and allowed for rotation (like can be done with rabbit ears) to 'aim' the antenna for the best reception.

Yes it's the internet but for music I do it this way:

iPod Touch or iPad receives one of those via wifi>>>The iDevice sits on a dock that bypasses the iDevices cheap DAC and sends the digital stream to my favorite DAC>>>which outputs a very nice analog signal to my FM Transmitter>>>which broadcasts "my" station frequency all around the house. Interesting. Which FM transmitter are you using? Is Pandora a free service? Same for MOG?
 
Sadly, had my APS-13 taken down yesterday. All the tuners are moved to the new place. Stuck listening to Internet streaming. Going to be while before I get the antenna re-installed.
 
Yamaha T-80, augmented and amended with Carver TX1-11, tuned as most usual to WDPR. Though, as is our custom, we did Breakfast with the Beatles earlier on WTUE.

Can you tell me more about that Carver unit and how it is hooked into your system?
 
The tuner plugs into the Carver, and the Carver plugs into the preamp.

It does stereo processing/decoding stuff that I have read descriptions of, but I can't really say I know what it's doing. Adding and subtracting channel information in some way that eliminates noise. It's very hard to get WDPR, transmitting on 88.1, without hiss and birdies, but the Carver makes it possible.
 
I have a TX 1-11 "Asymmetrical Charged Coupled FM Stereo Decoder". Haven't used it or even thought about it in years. Really doesn't "decode" anything. As I recall it's basically an after the fact audio processor that acts like a dynamic high blend for FM Stereo audio. At low audio levels the unit blends the high frequencies of the two channels and cancels the noise, since the noise is mostly out of phase. As the audio level increases the blend becomes less so the separation increases, relies on the masking effect when it opens up so you don't hear the noise that's there. Seems like Carver was into that masking effect with the Autocorrelator noise reduction system too.

The FMT is a Ramsey FM-30.

Pandora is free. You get a few commercials and a streaming rate of 128 kbps. If you upgrade to Pandora One for a few dollars a month (4-5?) there are no ads and the bit rate jumps to 192. I noticed an improvement in sound when I did. You also get the ability to skip songs with no limit. For free I think your limited to around 6 per hr.

Mog is free or 5 a month or 10 a month....more money, more benefits. I think free is a fairly low 48 kbps but the paid gets you 320. I think they still have a 14 day free trial. I'm one week into it and think I'll be keeping it. The 320 sounds very good if the original recording was done well.

There are tricks to get the best out of both of these. If you decided to try them shoot me a pm or post a thread as others may have more to contribute.
 
I have Seattle FM station KPLU laying down some fine blues tonite, all coming via a Sansui TU 7900 amplified by an AU 5900 into a pair of SP 1200's in my office. Sounds damn fine... :music:
 
Nice! I am using a vintage Sansui that I scored for 10 bills at the GW. Its all in my closet

CBC Radio 2, 100.5 in London, ON. Tonic with Tim Tamashiro (jazz program) on either my Sansui T-60 through an A-80 amp or Yamaha CR-2020 via Sennheiser EH350 or HD201 cans.

Listening to FM 94.9 KBZT in San Diego on a Fisher FM-200 + MPX-200.

Ordinary top 40 alt rock station. One would think FM would take a clue from satellite radio by now and try a bit harder to expand their playlists.

Anyway, this vintage tube tuner gear holds its own after 40+ years.
 
Classical 94.5 - WNED FM out of Buffalo, NY on a Magnum Dynalab MD90T.

They're playing Renaissance music from the Millennium of Music program hosted by Robert Aubry Davis as I write this.

It's interesting that some of the most sublime music ever written was long before mankind discovered how to generate electricity... :music:
