So after reading about this antenna here I picked one up on the off chance it would improve my reception. I have one particular station that I have a very difficult time picking up during the day on any of my receivers. I hooked the Technics Winged antenna to my Citaion III-x and it's crystal clear on this particular station. I have used a standard dipole antenna as well as a BIC Beam Box with this receiver. The dipole provided the worst reception. The BB was an improvement and generally the signal was tolerable. With the Technics unit the reception is fantastic. Just thought I would share my experience. :music:

As requested - attached is a picture of the ant next to a Dt. Pepsi can. The light is to check the batteries and is not lit during operation. There is a switch on the back that you push down. If the light on front is bright the batteries are good. Dim - well no good and time to replace. Same toggle switch allows for automatic operation or manual. When on manual you can fine tune the reception with the dial on the front. Found this one on eBay. So far very pleased with the purchase. Hope that helps.

For a rare antenna they seem to be popping up alot lately.just might have to keep a eye on the bay and pick one up for the hell of it.i really dont need it as i already have a outdoor magnetic loop for m/w and s/w that works great but i like trying out different antennas as i do audio gear.
 
I finally dug up a 75 to 300 ohm balun and hooked mine up tonight to the S-3000V. I am listening to A Way with Words on Vermont Public Radio with that setup even as I type this. Its performance is about identical to the tuneable R/S amplified indoor antenna (the R/S is cat. no. 15-1821, see page 113 of http://www.radioshackcatalogs.com/catalogs/1985/) I had connected to the tuner before. The S-3000V doesn't have a signal strength meter, so I cannot get any qualitative sense of how it compares to the R/S antenna. The one nice thing about the Technics -- it's easy to (re)direct!

As I said in another thread, I had this antenna back in the early 80's feeding a very good tuner which sported 10 segment led signal and multipath meters which were actually meaningfully pegged (rare in most tuners). The SFH101 was terrible for DXing, having been designed to reduce multipath in crowded FM dial urban areas, not gain. For that ,is was just ok in my experience doing its best work away from the uber-competitive mid-bands. Worth checking out as every tuner has a different interaction with different antennas in different locations, but don't expect miracles.
 
I bought one around 1980 and did not work for me. Maybe if I fiddled around with it at the time may have worked, but being young I did not have "time" for that and there were more important things to do. I used it for a while, but got tired of having to change the batteries and went back to the dipole supplied with the receiver. Never saw a difference in reception. I still have it in my setup but not connected, but it is a good conversation piece, or at least people ask you "What the hell is that?"

I have to chuckle, as I just remembered having it mounted on a shelf just above the TT - a guest asked just that question so I answered that it was the nuclear power supply for the turntable....no idea if she believed that or not, but she was very,very blond.
