Record Bin From single 4 x 8 Sheet of Plywood - Plans

I've change the layout and dimensions slightly to reduce the number of cuts and to allow for the width of the saw blade.

Believe it or not, I still haven't gotten around to building one. When I do, I suspect it will be a 2 level with a draw below the top level. I'll probably recess the top level a couple inches and make a 'now playing' shelf on the front of the draw.
 
Here is my version.
My record collection is not huge, so I wanted to build something that was more for display than storage. I also wanted a drawer and a place to store my loose 45s and 10" records. I tried to make the finish look like a Restoration Hardware zinc finish. I also made a matching table top where my turntable sits.

Although I used two sheets of birch and altered the plans, I still used the designs and ideas from this thread, thanks a lot, it was a fun project.

Anyone notice the guy on ebay who is using these plans to sell custom bins. They are exactly like one of the styles built here i.e. higher front panels and wheels. He charges $337. Is it a AKer?

Here are the fruits of my attempt. As you can see, I have a nook larger than the two-wide bin but not wide enough to place two of those side-by-side, so I built it three-wide (that's a lot of weight to carry but I'm reasonably confident it's sufficiently reinforced).

Also put two LED pucks under the top bin to illuminate the bottom.

Wanted to add one I built this past weekend. It's MDF, which I chose mainly so Lowes couldn't ruin the board. It can out pretty OK. I need to get some LEDs so I can see better. The bottom level is a little tight but not too bad. All in all I'm pretty happy to have ha erythema face out now. I've always had a tough Tim browsing spines, especially with Mylar sleeves.

Hey! New member here. I joined when I found this thread as I was looking for some record storage to build. Figured I'd show off mine, which is a bit more fancy than most of them I've seen here.

The wife went to HD with me and helped pick out stuff to make it look nicer. As I was reading this thread I kept seeing WAF, and wondering what that was so I looked it up. Wife Approval Factor! I about died because the wife and I had just been talking about that!

That's why mine is so fancy, she says if it's going to be in the house, it better look nice. The rope trim is just a hair wider than the plywood. If I'd had access to a planer I would have trimmed it down, but it works.

I built two at once and spent $207 total, that includes the casters and the LED lights in the bottom section.

I used scrap as braces under the shelves and that also put the casters up enough that they barely show. Also used the scraps since I didn't want to put screws in the front. I used swivel casters on the front and straight on the back. The unit moves very nicely that way and isn't difficult to turn at all.

I wish I'd used a darker stain, but I had most of a gallon of Golden Oak, so that's what I used. I'm very, very happy with them and thank this forum and especially the OP for posting them.

I forgot to mention, for those of you who had good luck having the box store cut your boards, be thankful. I had them make two cuts and the crosscuts caused horrible splintering of the veneer and I had to be careful in assembly to hide that as much as possible.

And, they made one cut a full inch off, so I could have had one unit 1 inch taller than the other if I hadn't been paying attention. Didn't notice till I got it home and was making the other cuts. Luckily, it was in a place where I could make adjustments.

Those look great. I especially like the way you hid the castors.
 
SXTY mine are on post 165 I have the triple shelf like others are making now. We are moving soon and I am boxing up my vinyL, before I put them back in I want to add Castors to the bottoms cannot recommend some I can use. Bottom board I believe is flush and not recessed. I have two of the three tier and one of the original you drew up. I need 2 more 3 tier I am going to use your plans from a page back as my buddy made then for me. I now will have my own wood workshop.
 
I've really enjoyed seeing how everyone's turned out! Some really inspiring photos in here. I was wondering if anyone ever made plans for a 45 version.
I want to make one that has say 3 bins on the top row to fit 45s, a drawer just beneath that, and then the bottom could basically be an open storage space or possibly hold some LP Boxsets or something like that. I know there was talk of a 45 one, I went back through and reread but didn't see it. Any help would be much appreciated!

The print with the castors has a recommendation for a set from McMaster Carr. You can find them online, mcmaster.com. The part number is theirs, just take the MMC off of the front.
