Chicago skyline night pano. Taken on an a Lake County Camera Club excursion led by Chris Smith of outofchicago.com

4860_4862_4863warpCRLR5PS by old_tv_nut, on Flickr

This pano was stitched (photomerged in Photoshop terminology) from three wide angle shots, and is the first time I have had a major problem with Photoshop not automatically stitching. First of all, the automatic distortion compensation for the lens left second order distortions that prevented the shots from overlapping everywhere along the horizon. I set the distortion manually, which still wasn't perfect, but then Photoshop would only merge the left two shots. I guess there was just not enough contrast detail in the right side for the program to find matching points. I ended up patching the rightmost shop onto the other two manually. Then I had buildings in different parts leaning different ways, and had to use warping to straighten them. Finally got this done and posted to Flickr yesterday. Original size 10035x2850 pixels.

Some pics from the backyard.

Was doing some yard work and saw some fall shapes and colors.

Was doing some yard work and saw some fall shapes and colors.

Nice shots Danddd, fall colors still looking great in your garden/yard. The colors here in Buffalo are well past their prime, but did manage to get a couple decent shots today.

Shot this today at 5500' in the Sierra. Missed focus. Should I focus on the rock, stop down?

What were your camera settings? There is a compromise between stopping down and shutter speed for depth of field vs. camera shake. To get both, you might have to use a higher ISO.

Focusing on the rock without stopping down might throw the foreground leaves out if focus, which may not be the effect you want either.

ISO was 200.Lens was Canon 24mm 1.28. Here are the other settings:

I think the problem is I am shooting to open and too close in low light and no tripod. Another mistake was focusing on the Dogwood branch and not seeing the whole picture. Thanks for the feedback.

Raising the ISO would help - the good news is there is lots of texture, which will help hide an increase in noise.

That old rock will be there for a while, I think I will revisit it. :D

I really like the idea of a club shoot, like yours. That must be a great way to improve skills.
