Is this website still a work in progress? I'm not sure-- its been a great resource to me and I'm sure countless others from around the world..

I've noted some old posts from I think the creator/author of the site here at AK. But anyone know if its still being updated or edited in any way?

Yes the website is still updated and edited, but such a great place will allways be a work in progress.
The creator/author has indeed some old posts here on AK.
If you follow "TVK Talk's recent posts " there will be from time to time new posts.
The post "Re: Sony PS-8750 in house !" was made recently by Axel, the owner.
 
"Axel" hasn't been active on AK in a number of years, but he used to be a frequent poster.
 
I hope that The Vintageknob once will get back to its former glory! Its a great website, when it comes to quality perhaps the best.
 
Axel, the creator, has been forced to sell off the website some 2 years ago, as 99,99% of all worldwide websurfers expect everything to be for free at one click, while webhosting and finding(paying) for the thousands of documents cost him a fortune. Hardly anybody is willing to pay a dime; internet must be free for all, it seems. And the statistics counter showed that the 'average visitor' spend less than 2 seconds on the associated text (i.e. reading is bad, pictures is what counts), while some of the text represents dozens of hours/months of investigation, interviews, etc. Has passion resulted in severe debts, hunting him today, living in poverty (I know him personally, so take my word).

He is still posting some articles/threads, and showing what he is up to, as it is his child and love, but he doesn't own it anymore, nor new info will be added.

Bless him, and enjoy as long as it is up in the air, but most folks don't deserve even having access to it. A true goldmine created by a passionate artist sacrifying 8 years of his 30's/40's and all of his savings, killed off by the all-free internet attitude. I therefore sincerily hope it is shut down quickly, only accessable to persons who understand the true value and efforts that went into it.

I haven't been there much, but I don't remember seeing any place to donate to the cause. I think many folks (I am sure a small percentage but likely significant) would donate to such a site. I know how-to sites I use and I try to donate a part of what the site saves me to help out.

Honestly, as a cynic, I don't really trust anything I don't pay for!

If I had been asked to subscribe to TVK to maintain access I would. I've never been asked.

Before selling it off, there was a TVK version II, where you had to be a paying member to see more than the opening page per unit. Visitors dropped dramatically, a handfull willing to subscribe, i.e.: the end.

Now it is just being payed for by the current owner and banners, which Axel hated as being an artits, not a salesman.

I'm saddened to hear that. At one point, quite some time ago, there was some talk of AK hosting TVK. I wasn't involved, and don't know what path it took, but obviously, nothing got worked out.

I hope, before shutting it down, they'd back come to us, as we'd be happy to try making it work. If it's feasible at all, AK is the site to get it done.
 
Hi, I don't know if it is still feasible but hosting the VK content in AK structure would be great, as even if it has been bought by someone, with no regular update/upgrade, it will die by itself otherwise.
 
Axel is a good guy. We used to communicate quite a bit a number of years ago. I haven't seem him post on AK in a very long time. That's really too bad because he had some great contributions to make.

This. Sad he couldn't hang in there. :( People donate so much more today for their websites / forums than even 2 years ago.
 
Perhaps AK could approach the current owners / administrators of TVK and restart the discussions regarding the future hosting and maintenance of the site?

Don't know who the new owners are, and it would be easy to offend them if they just bought the site and have plans for it. That's the last thing we'd want. Anyone know them?
 
Been meaning to give an upate on this...Some months ago I emailed the "admin@thevintageknob" enquiring regarding site status. This was back in late July, early August.

I did get a reply stating that the site will remain there, but lots of other work is being done in other domains, and updating of the site will be done "later on".

That's all the information I was able to obtain...
