My old Parasound is in a pawn shop!

Five years ago I bought a Parasound P/LD-1500. Great sounding John Curl designed pre. Last year, I sold the preamp, to a local friend, for $200. I bought if off of the bay for half that.

Today, I saw my old preamp at a pawn shop down the street for $159. I know it was mine, for I remember where the defects were.

Have any other members here sold equipment before only to find it again?

Should I rescue her? :D

Well, let's see: five years ago, you had the preamp and $100 in it. You sold it and made a profit of $100. If you now rebuy it for $160, you will again have the preamp but this time only have $60 in it (new price - earlier profit). So you're materially better off if you rebuy it than you would have been if you'd simply kept it in the first place!

I don't know about you, but that kind of deal makes my cheapness gland secrete. :D

Yup. Sold my Kenwood KR-7600 about 8 months ago and found it in a flea market about 1 month ago. I know it was mine as well from the blemishes it had.
Anyway, I asked what they wanted for it and the guy said $350.00. :yikes: WTF.....I told him he was nuts.
 
Not quite, but close...

Haven't seen my own old gear re-surface yet... only been in this hobby a few months -- but I've seen the same items move "up the food chain" from flea-market to wholesaler to retailer. Recently saw a pair of smaller Martin-Logans do that. I spotted them, just to see the guy sell them to a "regular customer" for $450. That customer was a wholesaler, and two days later they were at a nearby retail shop, for over a grand.
 
Old 'Tuna' fish story!

I once had this gold-faced tube tuner; the only thing I remember about the brand was a "flattened" globe logo on it.

It was stereo, with a knob on the back that went from mono to full spread stereo, but it did NOT have ANY stereo indicator! :no:

Popular Electronics had a circuit that was a 20KHz. oscillator you built into the tuner with a push button to power it, you pushed the switch and you heard a 1KHz. tone in the speakers indicating stereo broadcast (20KHz. - 19KHz. = 1Khz.) the 'pilot’ signal "beat" with the oscillator signal and you got a tone you could hear). :yes:

My point? That tuner had this big :butt1: switch sticking out from the front panel and there was no other one like that, and I tossed it out on the curb and it showed up at a garage sale about 3 years later!!

I asked the guy if it worked and he said he had it "completely cleaned and serviced" :bs: (what he didn't know was I used to put painted parts to plastic car and plane models I used to put together on the back part of the tuner to dry so I could put the model together faster, and evidence of dripped paint and telltale cob-web(s) where STILL THERE!) :thumbsdn:

I told the guy my story and told him he should not :bs: the customers because it will backfire on him!

I walked away happy! :zoom:

I sold a friend of mine a Sony SACD/CD player for $100. Several months later I'm in Cash Converters and what do I see on the shelf for $99? Right. I bought it back, should never have sold it in the first place. It is still on of the players in the main system.
 
I had a Sanyo JA540 integrated (op)amp (2*75W or something in that range, i think). Found it in the trash, and it worked, so i used it for a while, but i sold it for $30(!) to a friend. I was happy and could not belive i got so much money for it. About 9 months later i was at a flea market at a local school, and guess what... Yes, the Sanyo was there. I recognized it immediately. And the price: $5! So i bought it, brought it home and it still worked. The next week i sold it to another friend for $25. Three week later, he asked me if i wanted to trade the amp for a almost worn out and barely working Hitachi b&w portable solid state TV i had, and of course i accepted. So, i still have the Sanyo, it´s still working, and now am going to give it away to a third friend.

Back to the same shop today, and there she is, returned by the buyer. This preamp listed for $850 in 1993. $150 with tax, and she's mine.

Snapped a few pics while cleaning it this afternoon, a few nudies and then intalled with an Adcom GFA-545II, an Ah! Super Njoe Tjoeb 4000, and my cheapie Insignias.
 
You scored as far as I'm concerned. I'm a Parasounder too so I know how you feel. How could you bring yourself to sell it in the first place!!!
