I recently documented my process for replacing the lamps in my Yamaha CA-810. I've put a guide up on a site I setup where I figure I will share how-to's I create while fixing up some of my own gear.

Overall, it took about an hour and was pretty straightforward. No soldering even! Thanks to dgwojo for getting me the right lamps and thanks to others who have posted their own ca810 relamping experiences.

Wow that's easy than what I'd need to do for my Onkyo.

I'm gonna have to desolder and solder back up a new light.

And then for the VU meter I'm gonna have to cut the wire, and strip it,and solder on the light.

I should have grabbed some pics on my 2 last re-lamp, a CR-820 and CR-420. I've taken to lining the lamp pockets with foil duct tape to offset the sometimes browned plastic and increase the reflection. :naughty:

Adding dgwojo's light green lamp covers also helps green things up!

Are the same lamps used in the 2020?
Is the process similar?
What are the 'green lamp covers' from dgwojo??
 
The older Yami's have colored plastic lenses inside the lamp pockets that fade over time. The newer models with the square opaque pushbuttons have either faded, burnt, or torn lamp covers. I've run across another's handy re-lamp work that had some funky red glue, almost like locktite mucking things up.

dgwojo has little colored "condoms" available for his lamps. I use the light green ones on my silver face Yami's meters and the light green and amber/yellow ones on the black face Yami's with the square opaque power buttons.
 
I found this old post for relamping a Yamaha CA-810, looks very easy. My question is, can you replace the original bulbs with those LED bulbs without doing any other upgrade? Thanks for any advice.
 
Where do you get new original style bulbs ?

At the very least you will need current limiting resistors for a led conversion

If I understand your question, I don't know if you can get original replacement bulbs.
 
I have a ca 810 that needs new bulbs.

Where can i obtain suitable replacement bulbs for my ca 810 ?
 
My foam ( that sits atop the metal box housing the lamps) was disintegrated and gone. Is that a problem ? I dont understand why it was there ? Appears to serve no purpose that i can imagine
