Those Digitrac 200NE's...

virak

Save the vinyl!
This SQ from a $20 cartridge? D*mn, what a bargain :D

I'm using one with the original body (3 out of 10 worked) on my Technics SL-120Mk2 (SME 3009/S2 Imp, fluid damper and Isonoes), and the improvement over the Ortofon 2M red and Stanton 500E MkII previously used in that system...

I won't try to review it, as I don't speak "audiophile" too well, but if you need a new "budget" cart, don't walk, RUN!

(I have no affiliations with the seller whatsoever)

I just ordered two more. I don't know if either of the two that I already own work - I only care about the styli. Upgrading to a Super OM-20 for 20$ suits me just fine!

Picked up on this thread while at a friends house. Sounded so good I ordered two and I dont even have an Orotfon cartridge! Best I can hope for is that one of the two Digitrac's work....

I bought four, and three work. One of the stylii is on my Super OM cartridge, but the Digitrac 200 NE cartridges also sound great on all of the p-mount turntables I have tried them on.

big bill-- you can get an OM body from ebay for low $$'s and mount the digi stylus to it, for a big upgrade.

I have a Digitrac 280 body with a stylus from one of those cheap 200NE cartridges. It's a fine combination, and I should probably order a few more for spare styli. It's a shame Ortofon ditched that line, though it seems like they might have had some serious QC problems with the bodies.

Or look around for a good Digtrac 280 or 300 cartridge and a P-mount adapter. The Digitrac bodies sound great, unless you grab one of the defective ones.

I've got one spare stylus on a body that doesn't work- I guess I better get a couple more before they get scarfed up. If I get a good body, I'll give it a spin!

Thanks, Sam Cogley!

Three questions. First, does it sound as good or better than a OM body? Second, are they’re any drawbacks to using an adapter? Third, what is the difference between an OM and a Super OM cartridge?

Bill.

I've never used an OM body, so I can't answer that. I do know that the 200NE stylus will fit without modifications on a 280 or 300 cart, and there are some slight modifications necessary to fit the Digitrac stylus on an OM cart.

I've never encountered any issues using a good P-mount adapter. My primary cart for good records is an Ortofon P-mount MC in an adapter.

Should I browse flea bay or is there better source for an adapter?

The Digitrac 200 NE's should come with an Ortofon p-mount adaptor and mounting screws. All four of mine did.

Well, after reading up on all this I just ordered a couple of the 200NE's. Now I am looking forward to checking them out in person!
