Bob Dylan Mofi SACDs

Anybody own any of these? Or compared them to the Sony ones?
I was disappointed that Sony didn't follow through with more SACD releases, and I see that Mofi is/will be offering titles that weren't part of the Sony set.
I'm curious about the packaging, too. The last Mofi I bought was a few years ago, and it had one of those super audio jewel cases.

Not sure what aspect of Dylan's recordings would benefit from ultra-high resolution discs. Most of his recordings of note were made decades ago, and the master tapes are probably worn badly, making any such effort kind of pointless. His stuff wasn't 'hi-fi' to start with.

Blood On The Tracks SACD

by Sony is killer,worth the money. Was disappointed with Highway 61 though,sounds thin. Makes sense as it was pointed out in the recent MONO re issues they spent days on the Early Dylan Mono mixes, hours on the stereo mixes.These mono mixes are getting high praise in the audiophile community.
Be carefull with MOFI I'm hearing their new vinyl offerings are not half speed mastered.

I asked because any comparison I made between the early CD release and the Sony SACD, the SACD came out on top. I'm not into "hifi" recordings, I'm into the best sounding version of music I like.

And he's had music of note in every decade he's recorded, IMO.

Yeah, BOTT is a good one. I have it, all of the other Sony SACDs, actually. Have you compared it to the Mofi?
I can't see myself buying many Mofi vinyl releases, I'm just asking about the SACDs.

Most of his 'music of note' was recorded decades ago (I repeat!), and the recordings were not 'hi-fi' to begin with. I can't imagine that a whole lot could be done with them in SACD that would improve upon good CDs. (By 'music of note' I mean stuff that was popular and influential, and heard everywhere.) His accompaniment was primitive and does not benefit from any special hi-fi treatment.

You can "repeat" all you want, but my take on music of note is different. It's about my ears listening to music I like. I don't care if one of later releases is popular, or influential. I listen to it and like it. Or not. This isn't a debate about his place in the world of music.

And as I said, the SACD comparisons I've done vs. the original CD release had the SACDs come out on top. I like the SACD releases I own. I'm curious how the Mofi discs stack up. That is why I started this thread.

Again, the problem is the source material. Not sure how well it has been preserved. The most significant material is quite old (50 years or so). I don't know how well cared for these old tapes are. SACDs of such old material are not going to reveal anything more than good CDs will (all things being equal), simply because of the primitive recording quality of that time (1962-1965). That was when his most significant work was recorded.

If the Sony releases are any indication, they have been well preserved. And there is significant material from the 90s that I'd be interested in, too.

That's good, but Dylan hasn't been on the radio or jukeboxes for decades. That's what I meant.

I know what you meant. But what gets overplayed on radio, or on jukeboxes(seriously?) has nothing to do with how I enjoy his music. Three of his best albums(not to mention the first round of The Bootleg series) came out in the 90s.

Oh, I see. Has he moved beyond harmonicas as accompaniment? I haven't heard any recordings by Mr Zimmerman in 30 or 40 years.

That's sad

that someone would feel just because your songs aren't on the radio or selling means your not relevant. You know how many times Bob's songs are covered on The Voice,The X Factor, American Idol ,are played during commercial breaks of The Tonight Show,Jimmy Kimmel or The David Letterman show a week? Bob is just a big of an influence now as he was in his prime. :smoke:

Nah...don't buy that. He was everywhere in the 60s. More or less irrelevant today (just stating the facts, I don't care one way or the other). The Byrds and Fairport Convention covered his songs, if I recall, and I liked their covers.

You are not stating facts, you are stating your opinion. He might be irrelevant in the top 40 radio sense(compared to his "prime"), but he isn't irrelevant to the music world. At all.
 
I'm also curious if you have heard any of the Mofi SACDs? Or the Sony ones? Being how that was what I was asking about in the first place.
