Been a while since I've trawled the Sansui section on ebay. Spotted this TUX1 :

High neg feedback ratio, NY area and TOTL Sansui gear - ring any bells?
But wait! Look at the sellers first feedback received (neg btw) and see who it's from!

Now I'm getting a just a tad confused here as to what's going on.
Anyone care to guess?

Funny look at the sellers very first feedback transaction. I think thats the low life who screwed Beatlefred on one of his Sansui purchases. Oh yeah another thing. If this seller is in New York then why is the auction listed in AU dollars ??

It always makes me wonder when someone is selling this high of a priced stuff and they don't take paypal and just want you to send off cash. And then don't suggest an escrow service.
 
If he screwed someone in New York City, and the screwee lives in New York City, well? Anybody in my town that attempts to screw me, is definitely getting a no-notice, hospitality check. The best way to "hash things out."

I just posted a LONG message about that phony Ebay guy and my AU-X1 experience with him- unfortunately the gremlin struck again and I lost the whole friggin' message!!!

Its not the first time its happend either- usually when I type a long message, when I'm finished, I do a ctrl C and highlight it in blue to save it, then the system will ask me to log in again (for some reason -which I hate, the system takes the liberty of logging you out automatically during the time you are typing in a long message) usually after I log in again, I can scroll back to the page where my mesaage is, highlighted in blue, and I can then post it. This time, when I tried to do that, I got a 'no thread specified' error message- so I could not get back to the message and gone goodbye it went. All that time and typing- a complete waste of time. Frustrating. Guess I'm going to have to type in another pgm like Word or just write very short messages from now on.

I agree that a good idea would be to post in Word or notepad, when posting long messages and doing research, as you sometimes look into your magazine collection to make your posts more informative. To do it it's awfully simple... just write your message in the other program and copy it across.

It sucks when you lose a long message. I had that problem often in university and lost long papers when the 'puter locked up and came out with the BSOD (blue screen of death). I set the "auto save to every 5 minutes" and it solved my problem.

Must be because I got the link going through Oz Ebay. Shows up with both currencies on my screen and the USD amount is $1,700.

Well, the sellers first fedback surprised me. When I read his responses to the other negs that he received recently, I thought " well, this sounds just like the mcsolaar guy". Meaning, if you read his responses, it sounds like it's never his fault. :rolleyes:

My first reaction was - it's mcsolaar using a new username. But the first feedback threw me off. Why would anyone want to give himself a neg feedback?

So, I guess there's now two guys (at least) on ebay to stay the hell away from.

Fred, hope that you can get around that problem where you lose the messages.

Pulled this little note off from the "Tuner Imformation Center" website:

"03/31/03: The infamous eBay scam artist Henry John Louis of Long Island is back selling under the name of "nmt_student" - this is the guy who was well known as "mcsolaar2002" and "accuphasedealer." See our About eBay section below for more details. Now he's trying to sell a Sansui TU-X1 without explaining in his listing that "Japanese model" means that it tunes from 76-90 mHz, rather than 88-108 mHz. (Modifying the tuning range would NOT be easy or inexpensive.) The little weasel ignored an email suggesting that he clarify this issue in his listing, and knowing him he's probably messed around with the insides of the tuner, too. Avoid this auction (even you live in Japan and don't mind overpaying by several hundred dollars) and this seller!!"

This GUY is a LOSER....

I just crosschecked all the names on ebay of this guy. He is all of the above: nmt_student, mcsolaar2002, and accuphasedealer. He is even selling the exact same equipment with the same photos. Under his ID of mcsolaar2002 alll the items are Buy-it-Now, and under his ID nmt_student he is using private bidding so that even the people bidding on the items can't be warned. If you look at the feedback of accuphasedelear you will see that nmt, and mcs left positive feedback for himself. Has Ebay been alerted to this Jack Ass?

Well, I just emailed him a little while ago (via Ask Seller a Question on Ebay) and I got a response back from (him)? Email name in my Inbox was Geiger Muller ?? Here is what he wrote to me:

You are a funny man, but not too smart. You posted the bullshit comments on the tunnerfan website.... I love Sansui units as much as you do if not more. But I realized last summer that most Sansui units are pushing 25, 30 years old. That is why I sold off all my collection. You are hanging on to 30 year old piece that will of course give you problem because of their age, not because people tamper with them. THINK MY MAN. Now I collect Accuphase my oldest piece is only 5 years old. and they are better quality than Sansui. Here is a word of advice from one sansui lover to another. LET GO OF YOUR SANSUI UNITS. I can help you built an accuphase collection. WISE UP!!!

PS IT DOES NOT MATTER WHO YOU GET YOUR SANSUI FROM, IT WILL GIVE YOU PROBLEMS BECAUSE OF THEIR AGES....WHEN YOU UNDERSTAND THAT, CONTACT ME

And here is what I wrote back to him (which was in red computer ink), I await his reply:

No- its You who is the one thats not too smart- I havent written anything on that tuner site. And I dont need any advice from you. All of my Sansui' s are just fine- I dont care how old they are. The only ones that are ****ed up are the AU-X1's because HENRY JEAN LOUIS and/or someone he knows is in a crooked business of ripping people off. I dont appreciate spending $950 of my hard-earned money only to find out soon after that the amp was tampered with- Sanken transistors all taken out- cheap fakes put in its place, horrible soldering inside- the person who did that is a real asshole. And the 2nd amp- the same story! Now, two amps are equally ****ed up and they dont work right- they still keep going into Oscillation and blowing up- thanks to Henry Jean Louis- and you expect I shouldnt be upset to get cheated out of $950?! The guy changes his ebay id several times, other people have bad experiences with him, and yet you seem to think you arent doing anything wrong and no one should be suspicious of you?

I am not interested in Accuphase- if that is what YOU collect- fine, go ahead for all I care and collect them. You say the Sansui' s are all old- yet you still want $2500 for them, dont you?!

dstarr- I doubt that any complaining on my part to Ebay would accomplish much of anything regarding him. I'm sure other people have complained about him before and left negative feedback to which he just seems to come back on there with another id.

I appreciate Ebay when it comes to having the opportunity to be able to acquire alot of nice hi fi equipment & other things that I would otherwise not be able to obtain if I were to rely on whats only available in my local area (without using the resources of The Net & Ebay). However, when it comes to resolving disputes between seller & buyer, I think Ebay is a bit lacking in that department. I recently purchased a very nice turntable but when it arrived here, I found the stylus was broken. I notified the seller about this and it ended up that he refused to compensate me the cost to replace it. When I threatened to leave him negative feedback, he retaliated by saying if I did- he would do the same to me. I wrote to Ebay regarding that, saying that he should be thrown off- as its unethical to make up a negative feedback on someone in order to prevent the other person from giving you one (though in his case its deserved).

(Sorry, I had to step away from the computer- didnt want to lose the message as has happended before, so I decided to post up to what I had written so far)..... anyway.,...

So- I didnt hear back from Ebay. I then took up the matter using Ebay's Square Trade. But that didnt accomplish anything either. If I wanted anything to get accomplished in terms of getting compensated for the cost of the broken stylus, I then couldve had Ebay appoint a Mediator- but- they charge a $20 Fee for that- gee, some help they are. I'm better off just using that $20 toward buying a replacement stylus on my own.

In the case of the A-hole that I bought the AU-X1 amp from, he originally had it on Ebay but he pulled it off when I expressed my interest to buy it from him, so we never had an official Ebay transaction. Even if we did, I'm inclined to think I wouldve just had the same situation as I had mentioned previously with the other seller and the turntable.

As for filing a fraud charge, well, I could take him to Small Claims Court to try and get the $950 back- but I shoudve just done that soon after I bought the amp from him, rather than now, which is almost exactly one year later (bought it 4/6/02). And even if I did get the $950 back, still doesnt recover the costs I spent to try and have it repaired in the shop which I dont think the Court would award me any money for.
 
Wow I did not know that about Ebay, especially the $20 fee for a mideator. Makes me think twice about buying anything over $100, which is the most I have risked. I did get burned on the piece as it had other problems that the seller did not disclose. But I guess you can't do much becasuse is was bought on the side. He really went in and swapped power tranisitors? Well anyway sorry to here about the scam. You could go on Ebay and use a new name such as"nmt_studentFU" (just kidding). Or sell it so that you could recoupe something, for parts etc.

Good detective work!:) Beats me why he would give himself (mcsolaar to nmt student) a negative feedback. Trying to throw people off? But doesn't look too good for any seller when his first feedback is a neg. Go figure.

So your email to nmt student was just another way to vent? Not that you really expect to get a result out of this creep. Sorry that you are in such a tough position with this. I believe you are right in that you would have to hand both AUX1's back to him if he were to return the $950 to you. Any money you might have spent on them is not his problem. Most you could do then, is have all the new parts you put in there removed and replaces with the crap he had in there in the first place. Hope you can over time, find someone to take the units off you for parts.

buying network ?

Reading these posts pisses me off. I agree with all the comments about the unscrupulous sellers and feel that ebay is getting "too big to trust". It gives all sellers a bad name though, which affects me as I sell more than I buy.

With people all over the continent or world for that matter, why not have a forum dedicated to helping out the fellow karma regular. Have someone local check out gear, pick up in person, do the shipping/packing. Rather than buying sight unseen and relying on a stranger to pack an item. I have bought and sold where there was a personal meeting to do the exchange and it has resulted in good contacts that in several cases has resulted in additional transactions later.

Perhaps some kind of "map" showing who is where on the continent. A couple of guys living near the US/Canada border may also be able to save on duty and tax too. I travel between CalgaryEdmonton/vancouver regularly so have most of the west coast of Canada covered. I know there are a few guys in Ontario.

Maybe it would work????
 
Krimney- I didnt mean to make it sound like ALL of my Ebay transactions have been negative. The fact is, almost all of them have been postive experiences- and so, because all of my previous transactions hadve gone smoothly, I thus didnt expect to encounter the problems I had after I bought the AU-X1's from the crooked seller. In other words, because all of my previous transactions went just fine, I didnt expect at all to have any problems with buying the AU-X1- especially that model and paying the amount of $$ I did- I assumed it was in 100% condition- and never thought that I would need to inspect it beforehand to verify all the power output transistors inside were original. Live and learn.

As it stands now- I have a few options to consider- I can harass the Seller with constant emails to the point where he might just figure out that its best to finally give me my money back ( he has reponded to my emails and he does seem to be getting annoyed:)

Or, I could bring the amp back to the shop and have them recheck it again. Or I could resell it and recover what I can- certainly not what I spent to buy it for plus the repair bills, but perhaps something of a reasonable amount, nonetheless.

I could also send it to someone Ive been in touch with who is willing to help me out to properly repair the amp, though that still involves the shipping cost to send it to him and have it sent back here when done and so forth... But then there's the concern that, in repairing the AU-X1 Oscillation problem and making sure it remains stable, it performance characteristics might have to be slowed down and compromised as a result which I am not that keen on.


I have to still think it over, I thought the AU-X1 vertical biamping arrangement was going to be my main system in the hi fi setup I have, but since I have acquired the mighty BA-5000 (aka 'The Monster') , I have lost interest somewhat in the AU-X1's.

In the many years which have passed since this thread was new, I have been one of the most problematic for our asshole Henry Jean Louis, now of Valley Stream NY. I just had his new account on AudioGon removed in a record less than an hour. This is about the 5th time on that site and at least 2 times on eBay. Now he is still on eBay under farah6520, one of his seemingly endless profiles.
I know for sure that I have hurt his chances to sell permanently over the years, and no one seems to buy from him anymore except for the "arranged sales" he has with the likes of ex-nh and his other cronies on eBay.
Rest assured I will continue to pop him at my every whim...it takes very little time and gives me great satisfaction.
