realistic minimus-21

Hi all,
I have an opportunity to acquire a pair of the minimus-21's,
so I am asking those who know, are they worth getting?
I see a lot of hype about the 7's and when I used the AK search function
and google, nothing showed up.
I have no idea on realistic products,so how do they sound?

I ended up buying them, they wouldn't be much bigger than the 7's.
I find they are brighter than my AR's and Avid speakers ( no surprise's there ).
I tried to find these in the Radio Shack catalog online ( 1983 ) but couldn't
see them.
The super tweeter is almost as big as the woofers... ( over kill )
I need to find a sub-woofer to compliment these speakers now.
Does anyone else have a pair of these?

You might ask your Aussie brethren. Doesn't look like they were marketed in the States. Most web references to this model are from Australian sources as cat. number 40-9167 from 1983.

And just to confuse things, Radio Shack used "Minimus-21" for an entirely different speaker in 1992 as cat. number 40-228 (then changed its name to "XTS 21" in '94 keeping the same cat. no.), which is a quite ordinary 4" full range driver in a small box.

What you have is not at all ordinary, and apparently quite rare.

You have cleared a few things up for me, but now I am at a loss as
to why they wouldn't market these in the US?

A bigger population = bigger sales = more money...I thought.

Maybe they had better margins on the Minimus 7's?

Yeah we didn't sell those here in the US that I remember, and I watched our speakers pretty closely. I like strange combos like that, I would have enjoyed hearing them. Looks like a re-use of the model number in the 90's that we did carry but looked nothing like that. As a matter of fact it was a very non interesting little speaker, made by RCA IIRC.

I see gears at work in the design of these. Looks like they were trying to get the most speaker in the smallest possible package. To get twice the woofer cone area in a box hardly bigger than a Minimus-7 they took the bold approach of mounting the tweeter outside the box.

Then they showed it to the marketing guys who said, "Yeah, that's innovative, but we can't sell something that looks so wild. Why, you'd have to go to the opposite ends of the earth to find someone crazy enough to buy that thing ..."

I stand corrected. Although, the website I referred to in a previous post did say made in the US, which is obviously in error. I would have bought those in a heart beat. Very unique speakers they are.
