Ok, so I was probably kind of dumb by putting the title "Because it doesn't know the words" on the thread for collecting data for a database reflecting what models of turntables hum with what models of cartridges, etc.

So l'm creating this one with the currently tallied results in a link to an excel spreadsheet.

Grado owners/former owners/etc. please post your turntable model, Grado cartridge model, and whether or not you have/had hum in this thread and I'll add the data to the spreadsheet.

Just a friendly reminder... I need complete model numbers of both turntable and Grado cartridge in order to enter this info into the spreadsheet. "Old Pioneer" or "Grado Somethingorother" isn't going to be useful data to anyone using the database to see if they can use a particular Grado cart/TT matchup.
 
NAD 533 (OEM Rega P2). Grado Silver.
No hum at outer edge of record, increases in intensity as the needle moves to the centre of the record.
 
Cartridge: Grado Statement Platinum

T/T 1: Music Hall MMF5 - No hum outer tracks, hums on inner tracks
T/T 2: Ariston RD80 SL - No hum outer tracks, hums on inner tracks
T/T 3: Realistic Lab400 - Light hum outer tracks, hums on inner tracks (pretty bad)
T/T 4: Sota Moonbeam - Light hum outer tracks, hums on inner tracks
T/T 5: Rega Planar 2 - Light hum outer tracks, hums on inner tracks

I'm in the process of moving and will have difficulty in updating the excel file for a while.

Would someone else like to do that for the month of September? In October, I'll be back in business and able to do updates again. If someone vols for Sept, just download the excel file, update it, and post it to the web somewhere else and provide a new link. I promise that in Oct I'll take it back over.

Hi,

I have a Grado Red on my almost new stock Technics Sl-1200Mk2 and there is no hum due to motor.

I have cross the stock headshell wire.

Just some hum when i put the volume over 1100 o'clock, problably because I have the table on the left of the receiver (vintage Sony STR-7045, 30W x 2) which is less than 3 feet from the transformater.

No difference if power is on or off on table.

I have Dynaco A25-XL

Nothing serious since I have to be very close to the speaker to hear it.

There is a little more buzzing in the right channel.
 
Marantz 6100 TT, Grado Black No hum BUT...

It started out with slight hum and by slightly twisting the right and left pairs on the cart interconnect wires, it was banished! :banana:

Great Idea on the Excel file, :thmbsp: but may I suggest adding a notes/comments column and things like the above can be added for fix's/refinements.

And if you want, I'll keep it up till your done moving, but I don't think I have a place to post it, will yahell support such a file? :headscrat ...

Grado Gold on Dual CS 5000. Had faint hum and RF noise. Except for the noise, the Grado sounded wonderful. It has been replaced with a Shure V15VxMR and the TT now has virtually no hum or RF noise.
 
Grado Red and Black on AR XA, stock arm...hum

Grado Red on Thorens TD-160, stock arm, sporadic hum

Grado Red on Ariston 11S, no hum (Mission 774 arm)

Grado Gold on Pioneer PL-41, stock arm, no hum

Grado Sonata on Rega 3 - No hum.
Grado Sonata on Yamaha YP-D71 - No hum.
Grado Black on a Yamaha YP-D71 - A real Hummer. Bad combo.
 
Just bringing this back up to the top. Please resume posting of your Grado hum info, as I've completed my move and have internet access again, and can maintain this info.
