Just rescued a 1959 Nordmende Casino tube console at the thrift store

I rescued an absolute gorgeous sounding 1959 Nordmende Casino console. Beautiful sounding tube SW/FM receiver. Has a Dual 1006 turntable. Stylus is broke but the table works, it's sluggish so I am guessing the old grease is seized everything up.

just needs a good cleaning. They just don't make stereo's like this any more. I'll enjoy it for a while and then probably sell it to a good home. :yes: will post pics later.

And bringing it up on a Variac and testing everything before the magic smoke rolls out would also be good.

Isn't she a biute I think she's walnut. She's only 43" w x 13" d x 32" h. Beautiful sound and the speakers sound nice, I'm thinking they are Telefunken, or perhaps Isophon. I opened the volume and no distortion.

Yikes I don't have a variac, but there is no smoke luckily.

Only thing is the controls a little scratchy and a burned bulb to the "direction finding" thingy.

I can't keep all this stuff, will probably need to find a good home for her.

The left picture is no flash photo - right? So it might actually be walnut. The German market prefered teak then or some sort of dark wooden enclosure with clear vanish finish but never walnut, so this console made in Germany for the US market is something I encounter for the first time.

It could be Mahogany. It has more small steaks in the grain, but it has large grain in the wood which makes me suspect Walnut :yes:

I just inherited this exact same unit from my mom. It has not been powered on in years.

I'll share a few pictures when I get it home.
