photo assignments

in another area of AK Tybrad has been kind to lead a group on physics questions.

I was hoping we could have a sorta photo assignment page.

I figure this would help those who want to learn more (me included).

We could have class critiques and whatnot.

Dont want to get this into a "whos a better photog that who" page.
But igot dissapointed seeing post "teach me photography" and it gets 3 responses when there is aMZAINGLY talented people here.

there has to be a given time frame though

I tried a "photo assignments" thread awhile back, actually it was a competition. Thought it would be fun. Didn't get to far. Hopefully with the infusion of more photographers this one will do better.

So... what's the assignment?
 
Remember, attendance and participation is crucial. Otherwise it will not work. I strongly suggest you check out some books from the library and do some pre- requisite reading and studying first. Or at the very least, look at the images being posted in various threads here with lots to look at and a good way to start. Be open to suggestions.

Interesting but true and unrelated story to this thread. After receiving my evaluation a couple years ago I asked the admin who evaluated me (young female administrator who was in her second year as one of our assistant principals) why I was not given a " commendable" rating in subject knowledge. This really bugged me because photography has been my passion and vocation for nearly 40 years. And then I told her that I knew of no other photography instructor in our district that was as well versed in this area as I was. I was dead serious. She thought I was joking and laughed and the look on my face said otherwise.

What was funny, though, I went to see her in her office sometime later and in her office she had a few photos hanging , all digital and taken with a cheap-o PAS. IMHO, the images were crappy. My students would run circles around her and yet she was qualified to rate me on my subject knowledge? Yeah, right.


Oh, get three unexcused absences and you are out. :D
 
The most successful photo assignments forum I have seen usually have run from month to month. Another forum I belong to has this as a category. As an example, last months focus was street photography, and this month is Summer Fun.

IMPORTANT Nothing but the monthly assigned topic is allowed to be posted. If you don't have a photo that fits the assignment "go take one that does" No-one going off on a tangent and posting whatever they like. If you want to post something else start a new thread or whatever. Maybe make a suggestion for the next month. Again, if you want to play the game, you have to know the rules.. Without some rules it will just become another catch all thread. If it works out maybe we can have a Mod make it a sticky and group it by months.

Just my 2 cents worth if you want it to run smoothly.

Ok... I'll step up.

July 4th is this month's assignment. Flags, fireworks, family, BBQs, parades... etc. Get creative and most of all have fun!

I once took a picture of some fine art. The security guard kept yelling " NO PICTURES!"

Stupid Museum. What do they know.
 
My submission from the road. Taken this morning at a rest stop in southern Oregon. Minolta MD Rokkor-X 50mm f/1.4 on Olympus E-P2. Resized on my 'droid tablet, uploaded via McDonald's WiFi, where I'm wolfing down an Angus McBurger meal for lunch. ;)

I don't get the problem? This is why I like the kinda class idea, with the critique idea spin to this. Only problem I see is that lone Texas star on a US flag.. :p:
