this thing looks pretty sweet. is there any chance we could see a bigger version of the schematic? i'm curious :)

All I can say is niiiiiice! Sweat piece of gear, that. I love the author's tone in the original article. A dry sense of wit. What a nice amp, even by today's standards. Nice to have both a classic, and such a solid performer.

You're both at 2.5K? Congrats...you post whores!!!!

thanks for the comments squid, they're the one piece of gear that'll never sell and will compete with alot the of the older tube gear like the marantz and mcintosh .too bad they're not that common and alot of people will never get a chance to hear them.

as for the 2.5k posts well it took awihlie to get there :D some of it being worthless dribble and some usefull.

cool, Id love to see an old review for the 255a's i have even though my iron is not original. wonder what was different between the 255 and the 255a?

hi digtubeess,

the difference between the 255 and 255a are the output tubes that they used and a 5w increase in power output that went from 25w to 30w for the 255a.the 255 used 6L6 and the 255a used el34. interestingly also i recently got a factory revision that was put out for my 260's that had fairchild switch that amp over for the use of el34's also they called it a 260r the only way you can tell if you had a 260 is if the chassis where the tube desiganator is a crudley painted or stamped el34 besides the 1614.i've come across a few on ebay that sported el34's and what looked like someone painted el34 on them but now i know that this was a factory revision

This definitely has that mod. Interesting. I'm probably the second owner as i purchased the amp from an elderly gentleman who worked in the defense industry in electronics.
