Hello,

Sharing my repair experience...
I fixed my Technics SL-1500, replacing the broken RCA cables with Monster Cable! Make a difference in the sound level! I can't solder for beans, burnt my finger and all. And there is no Hum!...

Now for a new Cartridge?

I like the semi auto feature on the later models, where the arm returns after the side has played, other than that she sounds and plays great! I am playing "Al Demeola"Elegant Gypsy" now . The dB increase from the monster cable is amazing! I have to play with the volume way low.

I like it, have to Polish the dust cover a bit. It is a good beginner TT.

can you please give us some more details on the process.. I would like to do this to my two turntables.. because I think they suffer sound quality because the RCA wires are over 30 years old now.. and who knows what decreased clarity I might be missing with wire's that are that old.

did you buy a Monster RCA cable say 2 meters then cut the ends off each one of the cable and solder it to your turntable?
 
I have found that soldering my fingers directly to the turntable results in a high pitched, howling noise. :yes:
 
I'm also the proud owner of a 1500
try wrapping the arm with plumbers teflon tape (thin White tape) and get yourself or make a thicker mat or add another thin mat under the Technics rubber one.
I found those two tweaks made mine so much better,smoother bottom end.
Gave it a nice smooth midrange as well.
I found as with Technics tables it really like AT cartridges.
I used the following and they all sounded good
AT130E
AT120E
AT110E
with both the ATN110E stylus as well as the ATN105 conical
I also used
Stanton 500EMK2
Ortofon F15E
Nice table it will grow on you as you use it.
I was more and more impressed with it as time went by.
If you decide to do the arm wrap take your time as it's a bit of a pain to get it wrapped smoothly it took me two tries before I got it.

Hi,

I think it was a 12' ft cable that I cut the end off of. Then stripped of the insulation, now there is the ground shield and the two seperate wires, Black, Red, (right Channel) and Yellow, Black (left Channel). Just be careful not to unsolder the tiny wires too much or burn them. Secure the heavy cable under the clamp and you are done. Ohm out your work for shorts,etc.

So the cable does make a difference in the sound as I have heard first hand.
The Clarity on the highs is amazing.

Have fun and don't burn your fingers when you hold the wires down!
