My new uber power strip project with pics

My camera took a dump so I have to use my cell phone but you can still see whats going on. I got the box all built up but now the hard work begins. When I get the peices all hogged out, I need to sand progressivly from 36 grit to 600 grit then use a nasty chemical to do a chemical polish. Polycarbonate does not polish very well because it is so soft. Here are pics of the box and the guts that will populate it. I'm pushing to get this done this week. Cheers.

looks cool, very impressed. the finishing sounds rather labor intensive and touchy perhaps, how many more hours will you have just in that step?
 
Nope, no Grenade, but the signage on the on/off switch should draw some comments. The little box is a surge protector and the big gray box is an active tracing filter to make the power "clean". I went with the hospital grade sockets just cus' I liked the color. The back plate that everything attaches to is dark green. So from the bottom up, there will be the surge protector and switch then above that the active tracking filter, then above that, the four sockets. I did the rough hog out on the top plate and that took three hours using 16 grit sanding disc on a cutoff saw spinning at 22,000 rpm.
 
That box is going to weigh a ton..Needs some cold-cathode lighting in side to make all that polycarbonite glow..:thmbsp: Maybe have it change from blue to red when power demand is critical..:D

It does weigh a ton now but I am removing half of the material when I sculpt them.....but then I am mounting on a piece of green marble for the base so it will still weigh a lot when I get done.

What is cold cathode lighting???

Cold-cathode lighting kits are sold for stuff like those clear computer cases...most well-stocked computer stores have them.
 
Update: I have been grinding, hogging, sanding and swearing for the last two days but I got the four sides of the box done. Now I just have to touch up the little scratches and do a solvent polish and I can assemble it. Should be done by Saturday night.

That is just amazing !!!! I was cusin' up a storm just doing corners on a acrylic reef tank I built . But you sir , have the patients of Jobe . :ntwrthy:

I was able to flame polish the acrylic on my tank . I wonder if that would be possible with the polycarbonate .

Dennis , you have to put some Cold Cathode (CCFL) lighting in there !!!. They also make a clear spray paint that glows a specified color when exposed to UV light . CCFL is available in UV . You could paint a design inside the power supply that could only be seen when the light is on . You could paint components different colors ...... they also sell techflex type sleeving that glows its color . The possibilities are endless ..... I cant wait to see what you come up with .

had no idea there would be work like that done, just thought clear smooth sides( thats what I get for assuming). thats sick in all the best ways, cant wait to see the end result.
