Fisher Futura F-50 Stereo Tube Console ...

Chip - HP

Super Member
Last Friday afternoon, I spied a nice looking console at an estate sale ... when I fliped up the lid I noticed the Fisher logo ... after further examination, I concluded that it had operational issues that I didn't want to fool with for the asking price ... I suspected that it would still be available for half-price on Sunday ... but even at half-price it would be more than I wanted to pay ...

Today after lunch, I went by one of my favorite thrift stores ... and there it sat ... I recognized it right off cuz one of the fake pulls was missing off the front ... after some haggling and a pledge to remove it from the store within an hour, we arrived at a price that I could live with (which was still more than I wanted to pay ... but the money goes to a good cause) ...

With a little help I managed to get into the back of my Tahoe ... upside down ... where it sits for the time being ... it's too heavy for me to handle by myself ...

The console included a Garrard 710e turntable (which is not OE) ... I managed to take a few pictures ... the 3-way speakers have the following numbers on them ...

Woofer - 220132 LS 831 113 P12RJ C71(6 or 8 ... can't read)8

Mid-Range - 220125 LS 831 106 P8RJ C6960

Tweeter - 220142 LS 830 107 P35VAH C6959

If nothing else, it looks like you got a neat little stereo push-pull 6v6 amp out of it. I've seen the EL84 version of that amp sell for over 100 clams on that auction site. I bet you paid less than that for the console!

I'd be interested to see a picture of the console itself, having just acquired my first (also Fisher) and most likely last, this past weekend. Do you plan on keeping the console or just the components?

Maybe consoles are coming back... If we just get rid of our wide-screen TVs then we'll have someplace to put them.

I haven't figured out how I am going to get out of the Tahoe :scratch2: ... the cabinet is nice looking and in very good shape ... so I might hang on to it ... at least for a while ... if I can find a nook or cranny in which to put it ...

I will eventually post a picture of it ...

Here's a photo ... not the best pic ... but remember it's upside down in the back of my Tahoe ...

Frankly, that is a pretty nice-looking console. I just hope the turntable didn't drop out of its mounts when you turned it upside-down!

In this case ... I removed the truntable (which was sitting on top of a piece of cardboard ... to cover the hole left when the original turntable was removed ... sometime in the past) ... before I flipped the console ...

From the picture, the amp tubes are a quad of 7591. This is a rare console and amp. Tubes should still be usable and if you want to play around with it, the amp converts VERY easily to EL-34 tubes !

Good Luck !

As nice as the console looks ... I have no room for it (at the end of the day it's just a big radio) ... so I plan to gut it and put the cabinet on the curb ... I'll post better pics of the amp once I pull it ...

fisher amp..

Hi, noticed the picture of the amp. It indeed looks like a quad of 7591's. I found a similar console about a year ago. the 4 7591's were toast, but I purchased a quad of electroharmonix big bottle 7591's. I recapped the amp and have to say it sounded great! I have a couple of fisher x202b integrated amps, and with a decent preamp this amp sounded just as good. I ended up trading the amp for a pristine scott 299. so value wise I figured around 250 to 300 bucks. Just thought I would give you my 2 cents worth. Mike

Thanks Mike :) ...

The console haves only record player or also reel to rell tape (a.k.a. tape recorder). How much power the speakers delivers and what audio frecquencyes range?

No evidence that this console ever had a R-T-R deck (I have seen pics of consoles that did include R-T-R decks) ... don't know speaker power ratings (can't imagine it's very high) ... don't have any specs on audio frequency range ...

They could be 6V6s. I have an odd 6V6 which has the same shape plate as a 7591, but upon closer examination, the cathode is much smaller than a 7591.

Man, that's a gorgeous console. I'd love to have it if you'd drive it to MN for me. :D

Seriously though. It's a beaut!

There's a similar Fisher 49 on the Houston Craigslist for $150 right now.

After carrying the console around in the back of my Tahoe for over a month, I decided it was time to gut it ... so that's what I did this afternoon ... reluctantly ... the amp is a "quad of 7591s" on chassis 660A ...
