June 23rd - boston / western MA AK Day @ Markus' Place

Mark, just finally got a minute to post a thanks to you and Blair, I've been going non stop till now, Got a little sleep last night after the ride (278 miles, do I win a prize?) and today was spent as the lead conspiritor in my in-laws surprise 50th anniversary party, which is actually still going on as we speak! I had to split, I was about to fall over from exhaustion! Glad ya like the hot dog sauce, go easy if you have high blood pressure! Looking forward to the pics of you and Blair trying out the chaps, as I'm sure we all are! She's a hell of a woman, count yourself as lucky to have her by your side! Not only does she embrace and support your obsession, she is actually knowledgable about it as well! Both of you were the most gracious of hosts, and managed to make sure all your guest were attended to and made to feel at home. Not an easy task with that many guests! I'm off to a handfull of meds and a pillow or two, and I'll post again with more thanks and shout-outs after I get some rest! Thanks again for a great day!
 
For the record :-) I didn't see the actual 6V6 amp that Cabinover took with him; and only saw his long after he was en route to Yanqui Candle.

I'm sure the one I worked on sounds much, much better than Markus' ;-)

HA ! not possible - mine has a special resonance-reducing vintage plastic hum pot knob . . . I spent WEEKS finding the one with the least resonance . . . yeeaaahhhhh . . .thats the ticket . . . .

yeah . .thanks to my Hamfest scrounging, I've got quite the little stash of those cool chicken head knobs - red, black, red, COLLECT 'EM ALL :D

that sand filled baffle design looks very similar to something on the JE Labs website which I believe was popularized by Wharfdale (are you listenign Sixcats!? :D) dimensions VERY close to your attachment mark . . .

I rolled my Valve-Art 2A3's, and a few different 12AT7's (Sylvania 6201's, Mullards, RCA, etc - wish I had some telefunkens to try :scratch2:) in those sweet little bottleheads . . . it really is amazing what 2.5 watts can do. I have some Zenith 12 inchers in the garage with the curvelinear cones that I'll swap into the OB's tomorrow I think . . .

by the way . .by popular demand I've attached a picture of Blair trying the chaps on :thmbsp: I was gonna try 'em on, but uuummm . . .lets just say I've been eating too many corndogs (BURP!) :nutz: notice the fabulous side shot of the JE Labs OB in the fore-ground - that way it's still audio related :yes: threw in a couple more too (my daughter fell in love with Beemer's Infinities - LITERALLY :yes:) Also, there's a shot of Mhardy's Bottlehead Paramours working hard (with cool handmade interconnects by a great AK'er - sorry - I forget who! :tears:)

By the way - SixCats! - that Eico FM tuner is soooo cool - tomorrow I'll press the Eico into garage system service :music: ALSO, . . . it coughed up a Mullard 12AT7 for me to try the Bottleheads with - already had a single, now me gots a pair :thmbsp:

The Paramours look awfully comfortable there... but perhaps Mrs. Markus doesn't think you should have a paramour, much less two? BTW, thats three point five watts per monoblock, than you very much. :-)

I will defer comment on the chaps...
 
Note that the Pete Millett HP amp/linestage has, in the style of a fine Navajo rug, a tiny imperfection deliberately built into it; symbolic of Mankind's imperfectness.

Either that, or the builder ordered one too few Wima caps :-P

I wouldn't have noticed unless you said something! I wish I had a pair of headphones to use on it . . . btw - did you know most Army vehicles (humvees, duece&halfs, etc) run on a 24 volt charging system ? you could plug this baby right in !

I used to have a nice pair of JVC's, but they are loooooong gone . . .I'm waiting to find a nice pair of Stax or Sennheisers at a yard sale :yes: - never liked the earbud jobbers . . .
 
With a pair of STAX, you won't need the Millett; you'll need a proper audio power amp.

I have a pair of the very inexpensive Sennheiser HD470's, which sound remarkably good.

Paul, what's the name of the CD I was kidding you about on Saturday? I found myself humming it and doing the beats while I was driving home. If it's catchy enough to get caught in my brain it's worth a second listen! :yes:

Also, what was the other CD that we played the fourth track from? That was really interesting to me. :scratch2:

Actually, I just recalled that after I dissed the hip hop thing he was playing, Deli asked me to put a specific track on for him to play through the Royds minitowers, and I forgot to note the CD name.

I'll bet he'll recall the other CD, too! :D
 
I'm probably one of the last ones to post about the get together but I want to thank you kindly Markus and your charming wife also. Had a great time and I'm looking forward very much to the next one. It was nice to be able to meet some akers. All very fine people. Markus; I also feel much better about my little habit after seeing your cellar. WOW have you got some cool stuff and lots of it. Sixcats it was nice to meet you and I hope the pl41 works out good for you. Just got off the phone with Beemer and we're both happy with our transaction. Beemer it was a pleasure to meet you also. RodG6000 was kind enough to be my designated driver so I made it home safe and sound even though I had my fair share of Buds. Thanks again Markus for inviting me to your home and yes I'm anxious for the next one. Brian

The first one, I want to be a wiseguy and tell you it was Carol Channing, after the ribbing I took, you heathens, but looks like you've aquired some good taste afterall so I'll keep the ribbing to myself.:D

It was LeTigre's "Nanny Boo Boo". Expect a package in the mail soon (but pm me your address).

Track 4, on the one disc was Tinderstick's "Tiny Tears". Baritone singing, much like Nick Cave.

Track 4 on the third disc was Townes Van Zant's "Waiting 'Round to Die". Country/folk twang.

I also requested track 1 off of the Treat Her Right CD, which was the song "I Think She Likes Me". Rock and roll from boston, with sax and lots of charactor.

I do believe that was it.
