I found one of these at my local computer and electronics recylers's store. I will attach an image of an identical unit.
It obviously predates external USB soundcards with aux and or phono inputs, in fact I am guessing that it has to be used with a computer that has a sound card.
The body has a pair of RCA sockets labeled "Phono" and a 15-hole "gameport" socket. There are two switches, each with 3 settings: sw1 labeled "Input Capacity" having 100pF, 250pF, and 425pF (pico Farads? capacitance?) settings; and sw 2 labeled "Output Level" having min, mid, and max settings.
The cable coming out of the unit has two connectors. One appears to be a male gameport plug (again 15-pin), or is it a serial cable, and the other a 1/8" stereo mini-plug.
What I can find online mainly talks about the Clean!Plus software package with which this unit and its successors have apparently been sold as merely the hardware accessory of. I can't find any specs on the preamp itself, what the settings mean or how to connect it.
I am guessing that it will work with other software if it is merely a phono preamp. On the other hand, what are those 15-core connections for? Does it draw power from one of those? Does the software turn on features in the hardware through that cabling?
Before I start experimenting, I thought I would see if anybody here owns one of these or knows more about them than I do. Thanks.
