I'm not averse to doing a presentation, but I doubt they would allow my SawZall on the plane....
I can bring a loaner sawzall...
I will have a listening room and it just might have econo-waves.. The fact is, I am not quite sure yet what it will have..
However, if you're reading this and you're coming to the fest.. please stop by my room, have a listen, introduce yourself and perhaps enjoy a cold one..

Hate to interrupt all the AK Fest talk, but here's my Ewave project.
It's your standard fair NLA, whack a hole, mount the X-over project that others have done with a few exceptions.
All of the E-waver's sucked PE dry of the 1.5 inductors that were recommended, so I bucked up for the more robust Erse Super Q inductor instead. (too big for the pcb as you can see). I left the original binding posts and tweeter switch intact because it seemed like the easy thing to do. I also removed the foam rubber dampening they had in them and re-stuffed them with some of home depot's finest fiberglass. Was that foam rubber original?
I couldn't be happier with the results. This took a good sounding speaker and made it a really good sounding speaker IMO. I also got the satisfaction of being able to complete this project with my very limited knowledge of how this stuff works and obtain excellent results.
Big thanks to Zilch and all the rest that worked on this project, Oh, and Bauhausler for inspiring me to use Advent's. I am living proof the anyone with half a brain can build a set of these with good results.

I know what you mean BlueFlytingV, these guys made this easy to do with results that are exceptional to say the least
. The foam rubber was original and Im not sure as to any benefits or not to replacing it with fiberglass but Im sure someone with more knowledge will comment on that. Im sure you like them as I just ewaved a set of OLA for a friend and they sound real good, allot better actually. I sort of hated to give them back to him:thmbsp:.

Well done with the LA Ewave conversions. I like the stock LA speaker a lot but IMHO the Ewave conversion moves it to a whole new level. I sold my converted pair to a musician friend who uses them for monitors and can't quit raving about the sound compared to commercial speakers (admittedly a low bar...) I have 3 more pairs of various LA's now and plan to try different WG conversions eventually.
BTW, the OLA and ULA speakers I've opened up have a stock woofer choke that's close enough to 1.5mh to work fine. It doesn't fit on the PCB as well as the called out PE part, but you can leave the choke installed, whip a 12uf cap across the woofer and voila, instant LP filter. Then you have only the HP parts and compensation on the board.
I'd like to find an LPAD with a shaft long enough so the original tweeter level switch hole can be used to mount it while clearing the speaker terminals inside. That would be tidy.

The cabinet shown in your pic is a Utility like I used for my first pair. The Utilities I've investigated had usable chokes. The NLA has a walnut cab with rounded 'bullnose' edges. The PH612 WG will not fit those without some cutting.
There's a website somewhere that I linked to in this thread that documents Advent crossovers. I'll see if I can find it.

You'd need an LPAD with a very long shaft to work in the stock switch hole. If I find one I'll post it here.
I've been a big fan of Advent woofers for years. I used to use a pair of NLAs as subwoofers. Jon Dahlquist was on to something when he used versions of these woofers in the DQ10 and DQ20 speakers. We were all amazed at how good the results are with a new top end on it. And it's really not that difficult or costly.

I am beginning the design of my E-waves with 2226's. I am planning to build a curved sided enclosure for aesthetics. Is there a recommended cabinet width for proper response? I was planning on making the cabinet about 18" wide.
Also I would assume that the center of the woofer should be placed as close to the horn as possible. Is this correct? I don't have a height picked out yet but will probable shoot for a 4-5 cubic foot enclosure tuned to 38hz.

I used fiberglass to load my enclosures and ended up adding some fiberfill as well (because that's what was handy when I opened them up).
Loading the cabs will be a matter of taste and application. The bass balance seems to be strongly dependent on boundary reinforcement and cabinet fill. Modify the latter to compensate for the former. That was the only serious mod I had to make after building mine. We found them too boomy near any boundary (but just right for free space) so they had to be damped more. The resulting bass quality is really top notch.

You do have the New version of the Utility. The woofer is positioned differently. I've never taken a pair of those apart, but the higher woofer position has advantages.
The waveguide certainly fits nicely in there, too.
I have a pair of those, also, as does Paratima, I believe.
E'Waver Les G., aka Paratima, has apparently gone MIA. Is there anyone near Tampa Bay can track him down and convey our concern?

Yeah, I'm trying my darndest to finish my NLA Utilities. The standard JBL E-Wave guide is a slam-dunk fit. And those beautiful Advent woofs really crank out the bass. Beautiful system, if I can stop blowing my nose long enough to get them done. Be thankful I'm not at the meet this weekend! It's been very liquid around here. Will check in again in a day or two. Hopefully fully recovered & ready to make trouble again. Thanks for the concern. :yes:

Glad to find you still OK. There's a nasty strain going around. Be sure you don't shake hands with any swine.
When you finish your NLA Utilities please give us your impressions on the necessary loading to get appropriate bass from the cabs. There's a wide range of experiences on this and more data will help illuminate the issue.
I'm going to try my next pair with the Masonite woofers and see if they're significantly different from teh round mag/pincushion ones I'd been using. I now have at least 3 sets of the Masonite ones that need foam because they're a B&*^%&d to get at with glue.
