i ordered a pair of jbl l14e's from a guy on ebay with a 100% fb rating who 'hated selling his collection of jbl's'. these were refoamed and in 'great shape'...well, they were until he dropped 'em in a box of peanuts and foam shards, unsecured, where they banged around against each for the whole trip, the moron, the retard....they survived amazingly well. one cone, however, has a rip. logically, i should just send em back with request for a refund, but i hate shipping. i may try a repair. rip is about 1 1/2" or 2" long. is this a recone or is there a repair to the rip possible?

I've built another pair besides my original pair. I'll probably finish another but I keep lending out the parts.
Yep... two built here so far. One for AWA ("Little" Reds), one for a local client (the BiggiE-Wave white wonders that I built into his existing cabs).
Probably will be building, or helping build, a pair for Audiopeasant soon. He just got a pair of HPM100 woofers that I had rebuilt, to go in this project. Modified KPM10.0s, coming right up! Looks like a tower cabinet... around 45" tall, 13" wide and 15" deep or so... around 3.9 cubic feet- should have killer bass down to the low 30s before rolloff...
I am also debating making a pair, using a pair of JBL 127H-1 10" woofers (L80T/4410 woofers) that I have here... has anyone measured those yet for FR? I'm just wondering how they work up to 1KHz. Should think they would be fine, since their older brothers (the 125A) worked just fine in the L26, 2-way, with a 2500Hz or so crossover point...

Here is my Ewave
Started with a Advent that really was not an Advent. All the parts but the box and the crossover was advent. I'll be using them in my DQ10s. After changing the mounting point of the woofer. Making baffle size for the KLH-5 woofer as they did not fit where the Advent woofer was. The internal volume
was just a little larger then needed. The larger outside dimensions of the KLH-5 don't mater Because of the box enclosure for the dual mids.
Then enhanced the bracing and took up some of the excess internal volume.
Then stuffed the boxes with a combination of fiberglass, open cell foam, and poly fill. I also added 5/8 inches to the front panel and another 5/8 th to 1/3 rd of the front below the woofer. There is also 3/4" bracing around the woofer's bolt pattern.
Worked on the crossover had to change the cap sizes because I broke the leads off the 4.7 MFD from adjusting its position too many times. Ended up with 3.3 MFD mylar bypassed with a 1.5 MFD poly. Still with in % of the standard. It seemed to reach a litter higher with the woofer.

I finally got around to finishing them up this weekend. I used the LE14A crossover I already had, and just used it as is. They sound great
nice and clean although not as much bass as the JBLs, but I was expecting that from the woofer t/s parameters I measured and the stock box size. They look like they were made to have these waveguides installed.

Those look great, Packrat. Those CVs have wonderful bass.
You should do a version of the ewave crossover to get the HF right.

I just aquired a couple Altec 416-8Z wooflers, seeing how there were used the 811 horns, you think they would be good candidates for ecovowave projects? Just not sure that top end will be enoug. I think the 19's are xovers around 1200hz...... but that is with the 416-8B driver

I made some grill covers for my Barzilay cabinet E-Waves. I used AcousTex fabric and window screen frames. It was a pretty simple build and the fabric stretched reasonably tight on the screen frames. I managed to get a nice snug fit of the frames into the cabinet and they do not require any fastening scheme.
I'm using the B&C DE250 driver. It's a big step up from the Selenium. JBL LE14A woofers are killer. This is a very nice combo.

The HF is actually the same as the high efficiency version, but the low freq cutoff is lower with the LE14A crossover. They actually do sound fine like this! I've got to look into this idea of window screen grill frames :thmbsp:.

Best I can suggest is to try it. EconoWave will certainly better 811 at the high end, and others have suggested that 416 is usable in the requisite 1.6 kHz range. :yes:
Looking good, and sounding very good also, I would expect....

Yes it is. Are you running the DE250s in phase or out of phase with the LE14A?
