Maybe its my room but i hate my speakers - all of them.

I bought a Mcintosh pre-amp & 350 watt per channel amp figuring this would be a great baseline.

I have B&W p6 speakers and they just dont do it for me. When i was in highschool I had a $500 system with cheap 3 way speakers 15" woofers. I didnt have to have a seperate subwoofer and i remember being blown away......

What speakers will blow me away at loud volumes with out cosing me a fortune?

Heresys' are good, albeit a little bass shy by most peoples' full range standards.
I would suggest any of the Quartets, Fortes', Cornwalls, or KG4.5, 5.5, and the like.
A little research into our database here at AK will reveal truths about such pieces.

Personally, i'm fond of the Quartets, Forte1s', and RF7s.
Khorns are always an option too. IMO.


I'm running a Mc2100, C28, MQ101, MR77 combo with First edition Klipsch Fortes and can't be happier.
I've rolled literally a 100 sets of different speakers, into that combo and the Forte's won .....hand down....

Just on the top of my head I would say some Cornwalls.Some of the high powered kabukis would do in a pinch for loud rock music.
 
JBL studio monitors that were made for mastering recordings they are made to be played loud, clean, punchy bass yet accurate. Look for a 4420 or 4425 but it will set you back a couple of grand.

An AR-9 is another super speaker that will adsorb your 350 watts/channel and not even burp.
 
I can promise you your memory has rose colored glasses. So does mine. My old carver TFM amp and h/k preamp stomps what I have now :)
 
Of all the speakers I've had -- I'd say for raw hard hitting rock, with whopping bass and super punch, it was the set of Allen Organ (I think HC-1's?) speakers that really hit the mark. Also, as cliche as it sounds, the Realistic Mach One (4024a) were also insanely loud. Today, I use the JBL L-100's for my louder listening pleasures.
 
Sound like you might want some speaekrs with some punch - CV's. Maybe D9's or VS15's. If not then I would highly recomend fortes. For about $450 you could buy a set and put in titanium diaphragms and rebuild the xovers too.

I like those cabs .................... nice & simple.:D
 
Try your system in a different room to confirm your thoughts about the room or walk around your room while the music is playing concentrating on different parts of the music to verify there is problem with one particular region of the sound. It is a lot of work to move everything but may reveal your problems. In my finished basement everything sounds worse than in other rooms. There is a huge bass suck-out and the listening position is critical to hearing bass.
