AK Design Collaborative - Insignia-Class Economy Speakers (a.k.a Indignia)

An Insubnia would be excellent.:thmbsp: One could use 1, 2, or the multi-sub route, of 3 and above. Wayne on the PI site shows a little Peavy device for inexpensive use of multiple subs, very econo.

These additions would begin to move Indignia up to full range!:banana: I'll be watching this one for sure. While I dont do the multi channel home theatre thing, i enjoy watching the build up you guys do, regardless. The sub is icing on the cake!

If this thread launches off like Econo wave did, those who havent should read

might be interesting to have rear channels using Ray's center channel design with a dipole/bipole switch. :)

Insubnia would still be interesting to me. I never did build the tangband based 7" bandpass sub, maybe it's about that time.

The Collaborative Tang Band woofers continue available, and I still have a stack of four.

It'd sure be neat to make that little guy work. Others have been stymied by the requisite port lengths; I don't think anybody's hit on our bandpass approach. I'll do a little research and then bump the thread, as warranted.

On the other hand, Ray's idea may be more in keeping with the Indignia spirit, and Insubnia'll get a new thread. Let's run the calcs.

Interestingly, I recently read where someone built a sub using the 7" Indignia woofer for their computer speakers. :D

Finally a picture - can I get some serial #'s!

All,
After a LONG delay in getting to a picture. Here's the picture of my son's stereo setup. Indignias, Sansui 7070 (running 89.3 KUVO), and a Sony ES 5 disc player.

Is that a lucky 6 year old or what? How about his dad? Lucky AND cool.

Anyone want to join us for RMAF? He went with me last year and found the sweet spot seat in every room. Priceless to watch the reactions of many of the salespersons in each room, knowing this was NOT going to be a sale. But maybe a 'sales lead?' lol

I know 2 or 3 pair went to friends of Robie who are not AK members (at least not active). Shame on them.

Somebody needs to suss out the filter; it could be used to drive assisted alignments at different frequencies and Qs. 2226H wil subwoof, for example, with the appropriate boost, but 12 dB is more than typically required, and the Pyle frequencies aren't low enough:

The LHF Quick and Dirty thread shows how I tweaked JBL 5235 pro crossovers for B380's Q=2 bump at 26 Hz. Those are commonly available used for ~$35, and with the 80 Hz cards, make excellent active sub XOs, with filtered highpass, as well.... :guitar:

Here's where Wayne tweeks it just a little.....

Well nuts, I cant get a link to work, click on the link I supplied above, and then click "Active Sub Crossover"

Make sure and read the little piece Wayne puts in from Shane, where you can get a litttle pre made board instead of fabricationg it. I wonder if certain parts changes would allow you to move where the crossover/EQ boost are currently set?

didnt I just see apost in LH forum that JBL has closeout 552 elec. crossovers for 84 bucks? Yes 83 and change under 'closeouts' I cant get this link to work either! :mad: Go to the tent sale page, click on closeouts, and look in the upper right hand corner under 'best sellers' and the first item is the unit!

Proudest Monkey off of DMB Crash is almost jaw dropping for the price of his 'system' ($45 for the receiver, $225 for the speaker kit, $0 for the ES Cd player - was mine but in storage). Where was this $250 system when I was growing up?! Poor kid is going to be the only one with an ear for quality sound that puts him in the way of most of his friends systems all the way through college I suppose!

About the same. Many builders have installed eWave in vintage cabinets; see the Bauhausler's tutorial on upgrading Advents, for example:

Others with the equipment and skills to do so have made some stunning custom cabinets.

An inexpensive ($64) cabinet kit recently came available from Parts Express, and several eWavers are experimenting with it. Can you say "Slam dunk?"

It's why I have the parts.

Indignia design started in the 0.25 cuft. cabs, and I bought them way back then to get started.

I have completed a preliminary baffle layout. Next step is to cut some wood. :thmbsp:
