Again, it's unanticipated demand, and they are not in this "business." These parts are stocked in small quantities to meet requirements for servicing their own products, and it's rare that waveguides need replacing in normal use. In the last several months, they have received a high volume of orders for these from individuals (as opposed to service centers) as components. They cannot "borrow" from production of new product, so we have to wait for them to be produced for restock.... :yes:
 
The thing is I've seen only a handful of projects using these waveguides. Unless there are lots of people who aren't members going along with builds themselves or members who haven't posted their projects yet.

Let's just cross our fingers that they keep selling the parts. Would be a shame if they decided to change their policy selling parts to the general public. My take is most (if not all) of the people buying the waveguides wouldn't be in the market to buy their pro speakers anyway.

Be patient, they'll catch up now that they know what's up. They got hit from the internet blind side. These are replacement parts to them - for a part that is virtually indestructable in normal use. Prior to the two or three DIY threads both here and on other forums (at least two that I know of) there was probably ZERO demand for them as a service part. JBL Pro, a MUCH larger company, I expect, wasn't much better last January. I tried for 5 months to get ONE of the standard EWG's without success. They stopped taking credit card orders for them, from me at least.

LOL - :banana: - So ALL we need is the mathematical model for the PERFECT waveguide shape, which I'm sure all participants could surely agree on in a timely manner..I'm sure we can hash that out in two or three weeks... develop a CNC or photoresist prototype, have injection molding tooling made...have someone personally finance the whole affair on the speculation that the DIY sales at about $20 a pair will make it at least a break-even endevor and get all of that done by December. I don't see a problem...:yes:

Room modes, reflections, power compression, cracked drywall, upset neighbors, crossovers, room EQ, speaker placement, amp fan noise....

No GF bitching that it's "Too LOUD", "Too much time and $$$, what about me???" heck I probably wouldn't even be able to hear her any more:music::D:scratch2:

How do you radius-out the bottom of the QSC?

A router with the correct bit to follow the circle of the woofer cutout made cutting the QSC waveguide easy. A bit of sandpaper on a old port tube finished the rough router cut.

And how did you square-off the front of the cabinet? (Got to be The Hard Way..whatever way it is....)

The baffle was spaced to come out exactly even with the front edges of the cabinet sides. The edges of the sides still are angled back at about 15 degrees, but are only 3/4 inches wide, so are difficult to see. The spaces between the baffle and cabinet edges were filled with ZAR wood filler, sanded and then the entire front was veneered.

There are also magnets epoxied into each corner of the baffle for holding a grille, should I decide it needs them.

My wife works in the tooling business. Her small fixtures company just bought a 3 axis CNC machine. One of their suppliers can do small run injection molding. The setup costs make small runs very expensive on a per unit basis. I've been talking over with them casually just how difficult it is to manufacture waveguides from scratch and what data would be necessary to do it. The easiest material to work with is wood because it cuts fast. Also there are engineering plastics used in fixturing that cut pretty well. Obviously a symmetrical shape is easiest to define and therefore develop.
If there was a need to produce something very specific and different from existing waveguides then it might be worth doing the math, producing data files and having the parts whittled out on a CNC, but it definitely would not be faster or cheaper than presently available units.

Or, you could be a little more DIY realistic and use wood, only been done about a million times out there. Just depends on how motivated one is. Wayne sells a nice wood guide over on the Pi site, then there's B. Edgar of course.

No one said anything about manufacturing or sales, just a repeatable pattern anyone so inclined could duplicate. Something like Wayne does.:yes:

Myself, wood working skills are limited and I got a few pairs of the JBL waveguides and was one of the first to get the QSC guides....At 8.00 or so, I dont think I'll be climbing that learning curve soon. But its not like its impossible or anything.

A CNC router eh?:scratch2::thmbsp:
