I've had a pair for over 20 years now, and have compared them to countless other portable headphones I've acquired. Here's my take:
Pros: Durable, comfy, light weight, good bass, easy to drive, overall smooth, rich sound on-the-go all with a Lifetime Warranty.
Cons: Many people consider them to be ugly, but I kinda like their funky looks.
Not the last word in detailed sound or high end response, but this can be improved substantially by cutting a quarter-sized hole in the foam pads.
To my ears, they are definitely worth the $39 sale price. YMMV.
Hope this helps.

Have had a pair for a few years and I think Joelongwood pretty much nailed the sound. Never thought of cutting a hole in the pads, but sounds like it should work after hearing the same mod on the Grado SR60. Thanks for the tip!

I just received my pair from Amazon for $32 US to listen to ebooks on my ipod.
The Koss PortaPros have been around for more than 10 years now and have been very popular from the start. Great, cheap headphones for portables.

Actually, they've been around for a bit over 25 years now. Koss is selling a 25th Anniversary Edition of the Porta Pros on their site for $79.
I've had a pair since '85. I bought them to go with a Technics portable CD player. I enjoyed them then......and continue to do so today.

I've got two pairs for my portable systems and love 'em to death but I gotta wonder what they can do to them to make them worth twice the selling price.

is lower good?

If you are interested, you can go even lower on the price:

http://www.overstock.com/Electronics...rchtype=Header

Shipping appears to be a dollar ( $1.00), but that may be because of cookies... I have a tendency to buy there (overstock.com). If I didn't already have a pair of the Koss cans I would be on this like cold on ice.

I've had several pairs of these, and recommended them to quite a few people. The last ones I bought had a straight plug instead of the 90 degree 1/8" mini-plug...are all the new ones straight?

The last two pairs I bought were on Ebay and where right at 34.00 so the 29.99 sounds pretty good. I also found on Ebay a set of 6 replacement cushions for them.

I have been contemplating a set of these for my office, for private listening through my laptop, and occasional use at the gym through a portable as I already have set of Grado SR 80s for home.
