Accuphase T-100 or mac 7? series ..tuner which one ??
Howdy- thinking about buying a mint, aligned, fully cleaned, and serviced Accuphase T-100 from Audioproz for $700 or should I look for a Mac 71,74,78?
I'm looking for a vintage reliable tuner under $1,000 that has the best sonics and can pull in weak stations. I have a Godar FM 1000 antenna mounted in the attic. Thanks, Robert |

I've not heard any of the Mac MR7x, but I have an MR80 that I like a lot. I also have a T-100 and it's pretty impressive. Most will agree that the T-100 sonics are excellent. Go for that freshly-serviced T-100. If you find that you don't like it, you can always sell it.

If you are interested in the best sonics, most FMophiles will recommend the MR73, 74, 75 or 77 from McIntosh. Having owned all of them and the MR78, 80 and 7083, I agree. If the T-100 has been recapped as part of the deal, then it is also a fine piece. But, the biggest step up you can make in your FM listening pleasure and overall performance is to get a decent yagi antenna into your attic. A good antenna as high as you can get it is No. 1 in FM listening.

Thanks
Thanks guys.. well my Accuphase T-100 arrived today and I'm very impressed with the sound and abilities to pull in my favorite public radio stations. I also bought a minty Mcinstosh MR-77 w/cabinet that will arrive soon and I will sell off the loser of the two.
again thanks for your help. Cheers, Robert |

Unless the MR77 has had similar treatment to the T-100 it may not be a fair comparison. Decisions, decisions.......

Seeing that you've already chosen the Accuphase (good choice), this is too late, but for your money you could have gotten a Yamaha CT-7000 (scroll down a bit, or look here), which IMHO is about the best tuner ever. But hey, I wouldn't mind owning the Accuphase as well...
