Still watching the Thorens. I'm just keeping my eye open for contingencies.

I'm a little late posting to this thread, but I thought I'd weigh in just the same because I've got a Sony PS-LX2 that I was given by a friend and it's a pretty nice little turntable. I'm using an older entry level Grado MT on it and it's a pretty good match. The Grado does run slightly tail-down in it, but that darn Grado seems to sound its best that way. The Grado does hum very slightly, but it is very low level and doesn't get in the way of the music. It is only audible when no signal is present.
I had the Sony in my main system for awhile, while I was tinkering with my Linn and it held its own pretty well. It was a pleasure to listen to and I spent many an evening doing just that. If I was going to use it for an extended period of time, I might try a little better cartridge on it, but I don't think the table itself would hold you back. If nothing more, at least buy a good quality entry-level cartridge for it and use it for a second table. I think you'll be surprised! Enjoy!
