Coming along well. I am at a stopping point until I get the capacitors in. Both transformers are in and wired up. I wanted to keep it somewhat period so I didn't want to use any tiewraps. I found wax coated cotton string at a craft /beading store. Works very well. I can't wait to fire it up! More pics here...http://web.me.com/johnhuber/Tube/Phase_2.html

Just a couple resistors to go!

So I have been putting in so many hours on this project it is a joke. But worth every minute. I can now say I have 99% completed. I just need an elusive 820k resistor and a 9.1k or 8.2k for bias. Oh and a CL70 thermistor.
Discovered I had a pair of GE 7581a tubes in an old Dukane PA amp. Found another NOS with a local friend and traded for it. One more and I am golden. But at least I have enough to test this one. Thanks to Don for the 12BH7s, McShane for the caps, and most of all Mr. Shoaf. I tried my best at wiring it like the original although my next unit was a pretty poor model. Check it out.

Nice work Sloober
What wattage you need in the 8.2 and 820 K resistors?
If you want I'll check my NOS resistor bins and see if I can find you some
Would likely be CC though

I can fine 'em, but thanks. One question I have is about the voltage input. It ias 2 AC input taps for 117v and 125v. My AC is regularly about 122v. Which should I choose? Is sort of like a built in bucking transformer. John

Very nice work John. Use the 125V taps. You'll have a lot less problems in the long run.

It sings! The first unit passed testing and is playing "Old and in the way" quite nicely although mono. Bias voltage is -37.4 which is pretty close. I am using 7581a GE outputs. While I did not have any fireworks or smoke, I did miss one ground wire for the first stage. I could hear my cell phone through the speaker but no music. Once I found the missing ground it was all set. 1 down and 1 to go! John

Hi mcdan, I've been wondering the same thing. Why use the 125V taps?

Looks new.
Oh! It is new.
How'd you get those transformer covers to look so nice?

Hi Sloober,

Sorry I missed you call but could hear the amp running in the background. Contgratulations on the first amp! I'm sure you're going to learn, now, about why folks like those things so much.

Enjoy!

Cheers,

David

Turned out really nice! Great job on a worthy restoration project. Waiting for a review when the other one is finished...
