That's some seriously nice work there!

I, too, was thinking just make a new one out of two pieces of solid walnut and some veneered plywood... a lot less work. But, then I'd still have the old case lying around because I couldn't just toss it.

BTW are you skipping the recessed screw holes on the sides?

Actually, it wasn't much work at all. I'll do it in a heartbeat from here on out. I had the veneer, so all I had to do was cut and fit 5 small pieces. As to the holes, I veneered over them and just cut them out today after I shellaced and Deft'd it.

Here's some fresh pics. A couple coats of Satin and it's done. The last one shows a piece of the unfinished veneer so you can see how the finish enhances the walnut.

Looks sweet -- nice save. And a 9100 for just a ten-spot, too!

VERY NICE Andy Looks as good as my two best cabs with a little more pop. I'm more of a deep oiled finish look guy but your's has a very nice depth.

Course its a damn shame my cabs are so nice since you can't see even a sliver of the wood when they are in my racks. DAMN SHAME.

It looks terrific. I've never heard of putting the BLO on first, though. Have you done any tests to see what it looks like if you skip that? Just wondering what effect it has.

That's the trick of the BLO and the gloss. The BLO, or most any oil, penetrates and "pops" the grain; it's really nice for stuff like figured maples. Then you can build depth by a few coats of gloss and cut the glare back with a coat or two of satin. Mine will probably be buried too, by at least it will be in a rack I made

Jimbofish:

I have a test scrap outside I could look spray and se what it looks like. I have so much stuff here (yeh, I buy old cans of Watco and Howard's at garage sales too ) that I almost always test my finishes for color on a cutoff before I commit.
