Cerwin Vega 313 score!!! and autopsy pics...

I just had to go get these for $50.00 on Chicago Craigslist :smoke:

The guy was a middle aged yuppie. He said he had owned them for 20 years and they have been sitting in his basement for the last 15...

All I had was 3 $20's, I felt like I was stealing em so I gave him $60.00

They say 313 on the back, I cant find any info on these on the web but Id think they were made in the 70's...

They have some really nice real wood veneered cabinets. 15" woofers and 3 mids/tweets. They all appear to be the same but the crossover is different on 2 of em.

One of the mids is rear firing, there are controls on the back for the mids and tweets. The cabinets have a huge slot port on the bottom.

The guy had em running on a crappy Sony HT receiver in his garage. The sound was nothing special but just the cabinets alone would be worth what I paid...

I wasn't expecting much with that huge woofer and two little horns:scratch2:

I was thinking they look like they would be good for the Econowave mod:yes:

I got em home and hooked them up to a 300 WPC QSC amp...
They sound pretty good :music:

Turned em up pretty loud and blew the surrounds though :(

So this will be my first refoam and maybe re cap job :nerd:

Im gonna take em apart and get some better pics today :D

The woofers are 152W and my multimeter says 5 ohms on both of em. One has a black magnet but they are otherwise identical...

The horns all look the same in front but the tweeter is shorter... The mids don't have any markings on em at all :? The tweeter says Foster 025HO401 8 ohms 12watt nom 30 watt max made in Japan... They all measure 8 ohms on the multimeter...

The crossover looks rather cheaply made and the wiring is really tiny :o

All the HF drivers sounded decent and the controls on the crossover worked fine though...

They were ROCKING:music: for a minute before the foams blew :(

Im gonna refoam these and stain the cabinets darker to match my other CV's

In the meantime I have some Dayton 15" Im gonna throw in there so I can play ;)

YO, Steve, please upload your pics to the AK server; it's red "Xs" from CV Fans forum here; you must be logged in over there to view them.

One of your Imageshack ones isn't working in the eWave thread, also. AK allots generous amounts of upload space to each user; I'm probably the only one who has ever approached it posting <100K-size images. There's nothing more frustrating than reviewing info in archived threads and finding the images long gone.... :thumbsdn:

What those are are really 317P's. There was probably a sticker over the313. The shorter tweeter x-overs at 12,000 Hz. It is fairly easy to refoam the woofers.

Dstarr do you know when these were made and what the specs were???

I used to sell them back in 1977-78. I never saw a spec sheet for these. I was told that they were made for Custom-Hi-fi, hence the "P" meaning "private label" so that you could not "price shop" them at other audio dealers. The mid horns xover at 2,500 Hz. They are basically a cheaper version of the 317R/417R, which had a 6 1/2" mid xover at a much lower 300Hz. They can handle 150 watts and respond down to 30 Hz and are 103db 1w@ 1 meter sensitivity.
Nice score BTW. I found a pair locally for $99 same as yours. I refoamed them and installed a C-V JMH-1 Pro driver and horn along with a Parts Express 1,600 Hz xover.

Old thread but, would a set of these 317p's warrant a 2 hr trip for me for a good price, they need to be re foamed but seem to be in good shape other than that.
 
I had those for a while and they are huge! I like the tweeters on the back of the cabinets and the big bass reflex hole at the bottom! O man those are loud with a lot of bass!
 
I have cheap Jamo 8"s in my CV's...Total with shipping for 2 was 28 bucks, can't go wrong... I would have spent more reconing them. For you, that would be a better alternative. Buy some inexpensive replacements while the original woofs get refoamed/reconed.
 
Good point, there are a few places on that auction site or parts express that sell some pretty cheap decent drivers.

Do you think i will need a truck to go pick them up, or will my nissan maxima work? It wouldnt bother me putting them iside the car with me but will they fit through the doors? If someone could take a measurement for me i could check it out.
