SX-750 recap

I agree it has a parts list and that is where I got the information from but it does not have a "bill of materials".Now I'm not splitting hairs here but a "thing" is a "thing" unless otherwise named.Right?
Are you asking me to get the letter codes off the individual caps as I disassemble the unit because the letter codes are not listed in the service manual parts list,right?Or at least I do not see the letter codes other than what I already typed in.Of course I could be wrong and if I am please show me where.I'll do the work if you point me in the correct direction.
 
Now I see that you were actually asking me for the "part number" as well.You didn't actually ask for the part number but after going back to the "parts list" I see that some of the caps have the letter codes you are looking for.
So I will go back and add the letter codes into the list I compiled in post 17.

I'm going to re-cap my own 750 and the capacitor list in this thread is extremely helpful. I haven't bought anything or searched the parts yet, but I don't expect it to be too difficult even though it has been 4 years and parts may have changed.

One of the first things I noticed when taking this thing apart is that it's a pain in the butt to get to the boards! The SX-636 I re-capped last week was CAKE compared to this thing. I'm going to have to get creative in how I position this thing when undoing and redoing solder joints.

The main reason I'm bringing this thread back to life is I have questions regarding transistors. When I restored my SX-636, I replaced almost all of the tiny black transistors on the circuit boards. Should I do the same for the SX-750? If so, how do I know which transistors to buy? It's easy with capacitors...just a voltage and a capacitance with a few other easy rules. With transistors, am I going to have to look up each old part number, read the specs, and find a new equivalent Fairchild model? That sounds like more work that it's worth to me. I use the brand name Fairchild because all of the transistor replacements suggested in the old SX-636 thread I used were Fairchild, so I'm assuming they make the best stuff.

there is a sx-750 cap list but no transistors on it.

IF you rely on enie - menie - mienie - moe - transistor substitutions, it will bite you on the tukus - and I will not help unbite it.

BUT if you WAIT for me to REVERSE ENGINEER the circuits and make sure the substitutes are correct FOR THE CIRCUIT CONDITIONS, you shouldn't have any problem - because I know most of the problems to look for.

just because you see something similar in AK, doesn't mean it is correct. My MODEL SPECIFIC transistor substitution lists started this whole thing, other people expanded with ennie-menie's . then to do additional ennie-menies on the ennie-menies is really asking for problems.

stuff like transistor gain, transistor speed, appropriate filtering and taming of high speed transistors etc... and "bite" = mysteriously letting out the magic smoke...

Now, all that said, you CAN speed the process along, make and post a list of the transistors in the sx-750, using the same format as the capacitor lists:
zzz-999 board number, qx designation(q1 -q??) OR DIODE designations (including zeners) , part number.

That will save me a LOT of time and transcribing, and will be a REAL, tangible help in accelerating the process.

And the stuff I do to arrive at the list, it's called electronics engineering, a fun little thing called reverse engineering. Where I try to spot where they cut things too close, and that resulted in long term UNreliability...
 
Under semiconductors there are items with description "IC." What does that stand for? Should I include them on the list?
 
"Integrated Circuits" probably don't need to be replaced. That's a good thing, since some of them are not available.

Also, you may want to skip over any transistors in the FM front end section. Focus on the transistors in the phono/mic preamp area, tone amp, flat amp, and final/power amp sections.
 
Integrated Circuit, won't be replaced, doesn't HAVE to be on the list, but I can deal with it being there.. :D

just transistors, diodes, electrolytic capacitors (cea, cssa, csza, ceanl, ceb), trim pots (vr1 semi-fixed)

EDITED: Here's the list of semiconductors and electrolytic capacitors for the SX-750. If a semiconductor wasn't a transistor or a diode, it was noted in parentheses after the part number. I have two separate lists posted: one of semiconductors and one of capacitors. This is because the semiconductor list had two columns and the capacitor list had four. For AWE-073, I threw in VC1 and TC6 just for the hell of it. I'm not sure if they're parts that are worth replacing or not.
