Looks like we pushed it a bit lower to 37.25 Hz @ 8.5" with F6 = 41.08 Hz. The maximum acoustic power down there is 98.9 dB SPL. With the shorter 7" duct, they'll do 100.2 dB, i.e., a little better power handling, ~36W versus 26W. Fact is, the curves virtually superimpose with duct lengths anywhere between these and F6 is essentially the same with any of them.

This all seems consistent with how they actually perform; I just don't recall ever measuring the tuning to confirm, is all.... :yes:

Hmmmmm. Maybe I'll shorten mine a bit, I think it was around 8+ inches.
At about 3 feet, mid 90's seems about the limit. Plenty for there purpose, actually.:thmbsp:

They also fill my medium-sized basement pretty well. It's irregularly shaped but 16' x 24' at its widest and well damped with capeting and rugs on the wall.

I think they need stands to sound their best as well. Based on my experience, placed on a bench flanking a TV and component stack they sound smaller than they do on stands.

I played them pretty hard at Nor Cal DIY; they filled a huge room quite well.

Their woofs were pumping for all they're worth, and not complaining a bit.

It's just not their intent, is all, and knowing the specs, I don't think I'd be doing that to them for hours at a time. ;)

They're running in my 24x22' unfinished but insulated basement. They really load the corners with LF but need to be right against the wall (on stands) to make bass in the middle of the room. (I like 'em though - thanks for the planz and encouragement (or should I say goading??)) :D

Even with their smaller more "personal scale" they have really grown on me and are my go to/daily drivers. I listen to them pretty much every day with my old Sherwood receiver (S-7200) set to a local, high-quality college jazz station all day. Fantastically musical sound that doesn't fatigue the ears, even after all-day listening. I use them in nearfield configuration right on my small desk.

BTW, the college jazz station I listen to is WDCB (College of DuPage, west suburbs of Chicago). WDCB and our local classical station WFMT provide great source/test material because of their high-quality, uncompressed signals. You can stream WDCB via the internet. Give it a listen during the day if you're a jazz fan.

I'm going to cut the ports tonight and will try them nearfield with a little JVC mini system (you know the one that says HELLO on iRobot with Will Smith).

Thanks for the WDCB stream. If I can return the favour, check out www.ckua.com for one of the oldest radio stations in Canada - since 1927. They play a pretty amazing range, good quality too. Check out 'Roy's Record Room' on Monday night.

BTW, WDCB is Jazz during the day and more eclectic at other times including folk and blues.

I used to listen to that station a lot at work until they blocked Streaming audio.
Lots of variety.

Here's my entry into the Indignia brethren.

I felt the need to justify owning as many power tools as I do, so I took a stab at making my own MDF cabinets and baffles. They came out pretty good other then a mis drilled port pilot hole on one of the baffles,(forgot to make it opposed to the other one) but a little filler will take care of that. Good lord did I underestimated the amount of dust all the cutting and milling was going to generate, I spent a good 2 hours cleaning and there's still dust everywhere.

Listened to them for about an hour so far hooked to a Marantz 2230 out in the garage, and I like what I hear. I'm going to play with them some more this afternoon, try them on some different gear and whatnot.

Was a fun project for sure, way better then the long list of honey do's I blew off. :thmbsp:

BTW, my Indignias got an audition with a few of my audio pals yesterday - not unimpressed. Now I have to host a showdown with a number of other smallish speaks, results TBD. I've got high hopes for the home-brews vs. a number of other good 'uns (including my a/d/s/ SAT600s).
 
Looking to build more fun stuff..

Did we ever figure out what the efficiency is of these beauties? I'm thinking of building something with tubes to power mine. Keep it all DIY.

Any thoughts on power requirements?
