Zilch's AK Design Collaborative - Econowave Speaker

I chose LF over HO because it will take assist and make extended bass in these small cabs, OR mate with subs, as in HT or SR. I believe I have been able to cross it low enough at 1.5 - 1.6 kHz. I'd have to build up a pair with HO like Brandon's No Quarters to compare the mids.

It's the 0446 (?) rectangular QSC so we can use the DE250 with essentially the same pattern as the standard econo waveguides. Somebody's going to have to build with the round ones and measure the forward vertical lobe for comparison. It's a rigorous criterion.

With respect to the standard Selenium setup, I documented that a couple of weeks ago using DC300 woofers. I'll stick Seleniums in these on the QSC waveguides with the 3012s eventually to see if that is a viable option. If it can be said there's slack after just having these for a couple of days, others are going to have to pick it up; I've been working this pretty intensly for several months, now. I need to get this posted over on PE Tech Talk to see if anybody wants to work out other XO topologies with this combo....

Thanks a bunch Zilch (and everyone else who has developed E-Waves) for all the work you guys have done...this Eminence option looks like an option lots of folks will pursue....

One more question: Will the standard E-Wave high sensitivity X-over work well if the JBL Waveguide and Selenium CD are used, as opposed to the QSC and DE250?

JSS

They are typically in two sizes, sounds like you got the larger ones. Everything from DC-300 (cheap) to JBL 2235H or the nice AE drivers Similost is using. Lots of choices, good cab to grab!:thmbsp:

I think I've pretty much come to the conclusion that if I were to ever build any more speakers, the Lambda woofers will be the only ones I'll use again... That's how impressive they are to me... I sure wish more people could give them a listen, because I think if people did, there would be a lot more using them...

Actually it is the QSC/DE250 combo that gets the custom crossover.

Thanks. I can't really believe my good fortune in picking up the 2035's and the Barzilay's only a couple of days apart for next to nothing. There really isn't much happening around here as far as vintage audio changing hands and I was about set to drop a few hundred to get better speaker setup. Maybe to even things out, my just finished tube phono pre I made decided to lose the left channel after I installed new coupling caps and I spent all last night troubleshooting and still can't find the problem/:thumbsdn:

All that I'm going to have to do for the cabs for right now is enlarge the already cut rectangle to fit the waveguide in. In the spring I'm going to refinnish the cabs. Would flush mounting the waveguide and back mounting the woofers be about the best I can do? I'll have to explore porting and all that later.

Also, mine don't have any legs. I haven't found much in my search, where are some of you guys getting those nice metal legs I've seen on a few of these. I've been searching for furniture legs and stuff like that, but are there other names that I could be searching that will bring more specific results.

Nice and flat, Zilch. Did you say you were getting into the high 30's with that kappalite woofer, or was that with active "bump" on the bass end?
With assist.

Is that the DC 300 there?
Yes, and D2500Ti-Nd

HO may require the high-efficiency one. Somebody's going to have to check that out, is all; the standard version will likely work with LF, depending upon how much baffle step is used in the lowpass. The difference between the two is just a resistor and a cap.... :dunno:

Will the original grills on the Barzilay cabs affect the sound at all? Or should I replace them with something else?

Good question I couldn't answer.. I have my grills in, and it sounds fantastic.. I can't imagine it would make that much difference with them off though.. I'd like to have them off, but my wife likes the looks of them on..

I was just going to bring this up in your other thread. There is a lot of wood there and as I was building mine I decided early on that I wouldn't use them. My bet is they do affect the sound but how I don't know. But I bet they sound better without them. wianieq, click the link in m signature to see what I did with mine.

I agree, there is a lot of wood in the grills, but there is also a lot of holes too... I'd say it's close to a 50/50 mix..

I figured that since I was lucky enough my wife let me build these, then I would keep her happy and leave the grills in..

I've got a nice spare set of grills for Barzilay cabs if anyone is in need! :)

I should have my BMS drivers within a week. Will do my initial run with my K23 (forte) woofers but considering upgrading to the Lambda 12s.

I blame Similost for my loss of tax return!

Zilch , not sure I understand the xover of the LF for 3012LF , why not use 1.5mh ? (instead 4mh) what xover is this? 1.2k? or ? , also where can I get the QSC horns to buy? and how much is the De250 crossed at with C 3.3uf and inductor 2mH?

I guess I should build up the XOs to make sure they work worth a whit before too many others do. ;)

Look at my curves. I modeled it in PCD; I'll post the .frd and .zma files for others to try, if they like, but I want to regenerate them first and verify.

I've got these giant horns (on loan) I'm going to run the BMS in for a short period so I can compare them to the PT waveguide also! Should be fun!

The width of the baffle to side panels is about 15" and that's 900Hz, which is about where the wishbone shaped resonance is. So the foam is exaggerating that?
Sans foam looks improved at 5k too.....and other areas.....wtf.

Are we still doin' official ewaver post? If so here's my entry with the somewhat ubiquitous NLA implementation. I tried the ewave with a couple other old woofers I had lying around with ported boxes but the tried and true Advent woofer came in sounding best. I think someday I'll get around to putting some new skin on the cabs and maybe even get them out of the dungeon :D .
