I really think that the tweeter XO will be scalable to just about any competent 12" woofer. Series cap and L-pad for level adjustment compliments the waveguide 1st order slope. The woofer XO is then modified to meet the tweeter cutoff. I could see how this particular tweeter and XO could be a "module" to work with just about any woofer that can reach the 1300Hz cutoff.

I don't know if there is an easy to use DOS emulator for the MAC, but there are many DOS programs out there.

The "module" concept is certainly consistent with what this project has been about from its outset.... :thmbsp:

I'm not looking to scale it to anything else, I'm interested in that paticular combination. ( I already have the wave guide and driver) The original LP for econowave is just a generic 12 db per octave ( electrically), the LP for this combo is tailored specifically to those drivers. Change the woofer, and you start all over again. Sure, you can adjust it a little and call it good, but unless the measurements are done, and done correctly, will you have a proper result for any given speaker driver set. Obviously, you all have done this one right! That's whats so nice about this forum, and particulary this nice thread.

As far as the "5 components" That's nothing, I do charge coupled versions of crossovers, which at least doubles the number and value of the caps, plus adds batteries, etc.

By the way, what's the L-pad set to in the schematic?
1:00.

I had it in place generating the .zma and .frd files for the DE250/waveguide, and have subsequently confirmed the performance.

I'll have to redo that, 'cause I just went to fetch the attenuation graph and find I did not save it....

That's about where we listen to them if they're not toed-in, also the response in the Geddes extreme toe-in alignment. Looks like we're good (-6 dB) to very nearly +/- 15° from the 2.6° upwardly-tilted forward axis. :yes:

"Big ugly" build pics

I have been so busy getting my ewaves put together I haven't taken time to post any build pics. So here you go. First pic is the original cab stripped of all drivers, next 2 pics, sawzall time! Then I added a 3/4" MDF baffle to the top only. it filled the hole and offset the driver. you know 2-birds etc...
In keeping with the ewave spirit the yellow stuff is reused rigid fiberglass ceiling tiles (very nasty itchy stuff but it was free and effective). I added a brace to help stiffen the cab and hold the weight of the comp driver.

Assembled and Painted. How do they sound?:music: well the Peavey pro cabs are now speaker stands. LOL

The red is the port nearfield, the green is the woofer nearfield matched to the farfield measurement at about 200-300Hz. No time for polars now maybe this weekend, But then I think I know what we will see. :thmbsp:

I thought he meant 5 in the HP alone! Its the whole thing? Wow! so the DE 250 is flat here with no compensation? I'm confused! apparently there's more to this little number than meets the eye, no?

The waveguide imparts a 1st order rising response on the tweeter, well defined and very uniform over the range from 1500Hz on up. Below that, the tweeter/waveguide rolls off. A 1st order filter complements the natural rising response perfectly, flattening the system response with diminishing distortion levels as frequency goes down.

The two resistor L-pad reduces the impedance variation even further, allowing the single capacitor to do the job without peaking in the transfer function at resonance.

I'm sure someone could add some compensation/EQ to the XO to tame some of what is left to the response variance, but to what end really? This tweeter/waveguide sure does have an overall smoothness to it, staying within a dB or so around reference.
 
Simple, effective, and brilliant!

It all seems to make perfect sense.

I suspect this leads to rethinking all the variant crossovers and not just this specific combo.

Do you have individual LF/HF/and combined response overlays?
I think it would be instructive to see how the drivers act individually in the new x-o. I'm very curious about the lower end of the HF and upper end of the woofer.
