They sound great! They are RS woofers which have horrible numbers for the box. I'd really like to try some other woofers. I've been reading the forum for months now and have not really landed on a suitable (read: low cost) replacement. I'm up for recommendations.

What number E-waver does this make me?
 
To add - they sound great. The RS woofers are very powerful. The woofer numbers are wrong for the box so I have to crank down the lower end. Gonna have to put an EQ on these guys so that the baby can sleep. Diana Krall sounds like she's 6 feet away. My buddy Vince recommended a set of low stands. I think this is my next addition.

Zilch - your E-wave boards made it super easy and they added a nice finished touch. I also learned to solder in the process. Thank you for answering my e-mails and learning points along the way.

I'm not sure how the numbers work, or what size you have, but look at the DC250-8 (10") and DC-300-8 (12") from parts express.

The better is the enemy of the good.

Don't get the wrong impression. The standard EWave is economy in price, not in quality of sound. Zilch is pushing the boundaries with research but the "original" package is still very satisfying.

I agree, I just pulled the Dukane drivers with the JBL 2420 Aluminum diaphragms out of my test boxes and put the Selinium D220Ti in it for the first time. Paired with JBL 128H. (I listened to the Selinium with JBL 2235H before, then put the Dukane drivers in the test box.)

Sounds really good! More top end than the Aluminum of course.

Next I'm going to put the Advent 10's back in and see if I like them better with a sub connected.

I agree. Even my wife noticed the difference in sound. This is impressive since she usually laughs and tells me that all the boxes make the same noise. The only difference she sees is the price tag. LOL

Thanks Zilch, Taking the Altec LF woofer RCA 33785 12 " bass driver and the enclosure of Altec Madrid, 872b the idea to make an Altec 15, the compression driver in the Altec 15 is the 802G which could replace with the BMS 4550 or let the selenium 220 with the horn JBL?
 
The bent-neck horn is the major issue in M15. BMS 4550 is a "better" driver than 802-8G, yes, and a major step up from Selenium D220Ti.

My best solution at this level is BMS 4555 on the 1.5" throat version of the JBL waveguide. That will likely fit in the Madrid cabinet with a 12" woofer.... :yes:

Is the BMS 4554 a 1.4" version of the 4555? Looking at the specs, I'm having a real hard time finding a difference. If it is, the 1.4" Pyle 916 CD horn (PE # 292-2582, $23) might be a way to save ~$150/pair on the horns (vs JBL) and bring the driver and horn combo to "just a little more" than the QSC/DE250 combo. The big question (to me) is how the Pyle 619/BMS 4554 works if you bring the HF crossover down from ~1600 Hz to closer to 1000 Hz (suggested XO for driver and lower limit for horn). Is this as close to econo as it gets for a "bigger & lower" CD horn to mate up with a typical 15" driver? :scratch2:
