Zilch's AK Design Collaborative - Econowave Speaker

Nobody makes much of a deal over port pipe resonance that I've seen; it's more of a footnote.

Where it's crossed at the low end wouldn't alter the effect, I don't believe, as the source of excitation at those frequencies would still be in "play."

Thanks for the reply. If I crossover at 3000 cycles to a wave guide driven by GPA 902's, using JBL 2445J's for mid range (600 to 3000 cycles), which wave guide would you suggest. Room available is 12 inches vertical and 14 inches horizontal. Would the Dayton HO7E 6 inch x 6 inch work or ?? Also, is there any problem placing the wave quide next to the tractrix mid range horn (horizontal placement)? The 3000 cycle crossover could be adjusted to if necessary as the GPA 902 covers a large range?? Any help would be appreciated. This forum is 'great'!

I'd suggest that 902s are not the optimum choice for VHF; use a UHF driver like BMS 4540, and frankly, the eWaveguide is not a bad choice:

Econowave Standard

Finally got around to building the boxes for the econowave standard. The boxes are 40x17x15, tuned to 30 Hz, they sound great, now I just have to decide how to finish them.

Yes, that sounds like that should still work just fine.
Yes, I am thinking of MMTMM. I know for the ctr that is supposed to be bad. I do have the spouse approval factor to consider, lol. Not sure if it would help things but, thought of angling the baffles for the mids ever so slightly on each side of the horn. Could this help or am I just worrying to much?



Well to keep things cheaper and simpler I am switching from the orginal plan of 4 TB 6 1/2" to one 8" Zetag. I happen to have 4 of them sitting around. I understand they are the same as the AL200 just different color cone. So, using the TS from the AL200. Box will need to be 2.75 cuft or so with a port 4" and twenty something inches long. If I have to put a bend in the port tube dose that change the length?
Now I just need to plan box dimensions. I assume I want the Zetag as close to the wave guide as possible or am I wrong on that? And crossover on post 89? Zetags are 88db/1w 1m.
If I get the box and x-over right I think this combination should sound nice.

I like this idea. I may tray a 3 way down the road. I like the idea of a horn for the mids also. How low will it go before handing of to the woofer?
 
Zilch, with the Deltalite 2512II Deluxe version , what is the Electrical crossover point using the 3mH inductor and 15uF Cap?

I put those together to shake down the "Keeper" crossover Toddalin and I developed several years ago on LHF. I'm crossed at 800Hz there with 2450 on the 2380A horn. The 2450s have "SL" diaphragms in them.... :yes:

Hey zilch, I really don't know how to ask this because i'm new to speaker building, but it seems gwing built his enclosure according to daytons specs, around 4.7cuft. Does this change the crossover settings? I know that you built your standard(dc300) ewave at 1.65cuft.

i think gwing would have had to shorten his port tubes to about 2"x1.9"right?

i'm also building my own enclosures and want to know what the best enclosure volume is? and, if i do build a bigger(volume)enclosure can i still use your crossovers(standard package)

Generally speaking, enclosure volume or alignment does not alter performance in the crossover region, but may affect the balance between the low and high frequencies. In some instances, in addition varying the L-pad attenuation setting, it may also be desirable to adjust the lowpass filter components for optimum performance.

The "best" cabinet alignment, volume and tuning for any particular woofer is largely a matter of designer preference, and available box modeling software is suitably used in adjusting these variables to specific design objectives. Look also to successful builds by others for guidance.... :yes:
