Are you planning on putting together a measurment system? I've been trying to for months, but this F-5 project popped up, otherwise I'd have it way done by now.:sigh:

Top cabinet has the standard E-wave with highpass section, with a modified (custom reconed) Berhinger 15" woofer and modified E-wave low pass (2mH/10uf/22uf+10ohm Zobel), in 3.25 cubic feet.

Bottom cabinet has Dayton Quatro 15" subwoofer with 300w BASH subwoofer amp, in 7 cubic feet.

I plan to eventually but that's my problem also. My projects pull me in different directions and "something else" usually wins out. I have a very nice main system so this stuff is just for fun really.

The other thing (huge) is that although the software and hardware needed is reasonably priced, what I also need is to buy a new laptop so I can setup and run effectively in the shop. My old, tired laptop is not up to the task and the desktop is in the Family Room. Hardly the place to set up for testing. It's just not practical and my wife would surely kill me. That would be a bit counter productive to my music listening experience ;)

Until I get a new lap top, I'll be using the desktop. Fortunately, Its in the basement dungeon/lab/works area. Unfortunately, I need to move it upstairs for streaming purposes....lokks like its new lap top time, oh well, just got pushed back again!:sigh:

Are you talking about streaming or measuring? For measuring, I'd have to keep running up and down stairs (unless I got a lap top) For streamimg, (movies and TV) I didnt know if, or how far wireless would work.

I see people do it on Ipads, so I guess it would work.

I assume you mean to use the desktop in the basement with measuring system, and stream upstairs? That would make the most sense. Once laptop is obtained, I would likely move the desktop upstairs for streaming duty and the laptop could then be used downstairs with the measuring system.

There's a set of ESS AMT 1B cabs and woofers possibly available to me. Anybody know if this would make a good foundation for an E-wave?

Yes. Yes it would. The heil AMT1 are special in their own right (the tweeters), I'm assuming you're NOT getting that part?
 
I did not realize the extent of your computin' needs. Looks like you have more to contend with than i thought. Having a portable high-resolution measuring system would of course be great. :yes:

Hey J, they make GREAT eWaves. The guy I sold mine too still has and loves them. Most likely the passive rediator will need to be replaces. The replacement parts are 30 bucks on the bay. I did the stock first editioin eWave with mine but I think they would sound much better with the QSC WG and 18 sound CD...and of course the Z-lab crossovers. Good luck and post pigs.

With what 1.4" driver?

The horizontal dispersion is narrower than typical eWave. Looks like they're actually 50° x 50° in the high frequencies.

Their own design using it has issues in the vertical polars:

I have those 18sound XT1464s with the ND1460 compression drivers. They are pretty nice sounding especially if the room requires a tighter coverage pattern than a 40 or 50 x 90 horn. They are relatively large horns, and well built, but the XT1086 is probably the more suitable option for most of us.

The more I play with 18sound compression drivers, or even my limited experience wiht their woofers, has given me nothing but positive feelings about them. I've nearly been convinced that their NSD1095N compression driver is the best 1" option at any price. And the NSD1480N might very well be the best 1.4" compression driver I've heard including the heralded Altec options.

Should have been more specific. Has anyone used these as an eWave??? What did you think?
 
I think what Z was getting at is that by determining the original use, you'll probably be able to effectively determine it's usefulness. If the C was a 2 way crossed over to a tweeter at the ewave crossover point or higher, than it's probably ewavable.
 
a completed Ewave project-- Altec Santana 879a cabs, JBL L14a woofers courtesy of a great deal from AK'er extraordinaire PM Summer, Selenium 220 HF drivers, and x-over boards from Zilch.

if this doesn't prove anybody can do it, i don't know what does, but not without a lot of help. Dallas Audio Club member Paul Stewart did OEM level cutting on the new baffles and ports. truly extraordinary work. i hope the level of precision shows in the pics, because those baffles dropped in to the cabs like they came with them. a big ole HUU-GE thanks to paul.

the darkening on the edge of the woofer is my miscalculation how much brake fluid to apply to the surrounds, just about the only misstep i took....zilch's instruction sheet, as many have noted, went a long way toward making this job do-able for me.

does this mean i get an Ewave project number now? it only took me about a year and a half or so...
