Fisher Chadwick Model C-33 W?

Just found this console in the trash. I removed all components minus the Garrard turntable and speakers. All old Fisher components--460-T tuner, 460-A amp and MPX-70 W multiplex adapter. 20 Fisher tubes in all. The face plate shows designations for both FM-AM and FM MPX stereo, so I'm assuming that this was a transitional model when stereo could be obtained in both settings.

Anybody have any thoughts on this model? When was it manufactured?

Since it has a multiplex adaptor, it was made during or after 1961. Since it uses tubes, it was made before about 1968. My guess is that it was made in the early sixties (1961-1962). Pictures would be nice. :yes:

Separate MPX probably dates it to 61-62. Why'd you leave the Garrard? Those were quality units - if they were junk, Avery wouldn't have used them. At least go pull the headshell and any accessories and send them to me.

The Chadwick is one of Fisher's oddballs. I can't give you a definitive model year but I can give you my theory. First off, the model number, C-33, would tend to fall into the 1961 model year along with such models as the Custom Electra IV which was the E-33 without a radio and the E-44 with one. Furthermore, the Chadwick cabinet I once saw on CL was a dead ringer for the French Provincial style Custom Electra from 1961. However, the electronics (460-A/460-T) are found in the 1962 Custom Electra V. And, as you can see below, the Chadwick was selling as a discontinued model as late as Jan. '64.



I think it's likely that Fisher took leftover cabinets and fitted them with leftover (or then-current) electronics, resurrected a beloved old model name (The Chadwick, The Warwick - both from the early 50s) and then sold them to dealers at a discount. These models are not listed in Fisher catalogs and were probably only available at certain high-volume dealers.

The regular price listed in the ad above is the same as that of the Modern styled Custom Electras circa 1961-64 which were less expensive than the Provincials - so you really got a deal by buying what was, in effect, a Custom Electra model from a year or two back.

I think it would be socially acceptable to refer to your 460-A/460-T chassis as having come from a 1962 Custom Electra V. Without the cabinet who can really tell, anyway?

That's about everything I needed to know. I guessed '61. If I'd had the room, I would've taken the whole console--it was in very good condition.

I haven't tested the components. Give an opinion about its quality when running well (as compared to better Fisher equipment).
