Zilch's AK Design Collaborative - Econowave Speaker

I spy the Deluxe crossover and Indignia there.... :)

Yes you do, while not tailored to my bass driver, I think I like the way it
sounds, I do use the zobel components from 4430. If I ever quit building all this Pass stuff, I'll finish my measuring setup!

Okay, getting some pictures of the 2226Hs soon.
What is the latest and greatest iteration of crossover for this woofer? I searched but didn't get a definitive answer.

Either Waynes, or the deluxe. A little tweaking will likely be needed. kegger posted a LP for 2225H which would likely work, at least for the low pass. I'm using the deluxe as is, except with the addition of the zobel from 4430. Not perfect, but sounds better than it should right out of the box.

Son, you need to get out more!

russellc

Yeah, probably.

I heard from the guy with the Altec 15 inchers. Cones and surrounds are ok, but voice coils are rubbing. He wants $50 for the pair. Dunno what it would cost for new voice coils. Wonder if the magnets would need recharge, too. So, does anyone know how high these things might really play after a repair. Where do the VOT's cross over?

EDIT: Nevermind. I just found out that they are "Model 418 8H Series II (8 Ohm)", lead guitar drivers. Probably not what I want.
Thanks

Unlesss you had Great Plains Audio recone them to be something suitable to your needs. Very attractive option IMO.

The sound doesn't have to be perfect, they won't be for critical listening.

Stickys are handled differently in this forum; it takes two clicks to get to them.

If the thread isn't on the first page, just click "Replies" or "Views" at the top of the respective index column, and it'll be near the top.... :)

At the very least it should be in the "Speaker Forum Reference Thread" thread.

I wonder how many members have joined AK just because of this thread and hung around to see what this place was all about?

Yeah, like back October 3rd 2008 I think it was on page 3 for a while /snort :)

Great plains can re do them, I think it was about 100 a piece. This replaces the cone, surround, spider as well as the voice coil.

Thanks Russell, but I think I'll pass on these. The $$ starts adding up and I still have other speaker projects left unfinished for now. If anyone is interested in the two blown woofs, let me know and I can give you the contact info (it's a Craigs List ad, don't know whether he'll ship or not, though).

Hey, if you want a quick-and-dirty idea of the FR of the 2226... here's the data sheet for the 4648, which uses two of them (nothing else in the box- just two 2226s):

http://www.jblpro.com/pub/cinema/4648a.pdf

That should at least give you a good idea of what you need to do with it near crossover...

Regards,
Gordon.

Or, one could check the datasheet for the driver, which doesn't have those 1-2k artifacts from lobing of the two drivers ;)

Note: The Dayton 6.8 uF is too long to fit the available spacing on the standard Econowave PC Boards; use Solen or Jantzen (shown) if building with these:

Where do I find information on this "Wayne" crossover?

Byrd,
Log in here:
http://audioroundtable.com/forum/index.php?t=thread&frm_id=33&
and post "may I have the 4Pi x-o pls...."

Wayne Parham will send it to you.

I am currently using that with additional attenuation for my DE250/QSC/JBL 123A-1/KDT combo. Like Russell, I like it for now. Not measuring perfectly, but very good.

The 4Pi speaker uses the same CD, other components are different. I use those at work. Very nice.

PS, the EWave HF compensation circuit is based on Wayne Parham's.
