Fisher Statesman 1968. Pics Added!!!!

So I have been looking for a console for my house and I saw a Statesman today for 40 dollars. It was in immaculate condition and had all the documentation and even the warranty card. Chassis was 31-r. Turntable model was a Dual 1009 which was fully functional. The owner of the store had it powered on when I arrived. There is bleed thru between AM and FM radio and the controls sound in need of a good cleaning. Would this be a good console for learning to restore or should I hold out for a tubed model?? This is the second 1968 model I have found in the last 2 weeks the other being a Presidential.

it's 3rd down from the TOTL behind the President and Executive for 1968. IIRC the 31r is also known as the 220-T.

That thing is way cool and is in superior shape.
Methinks you will be among friends here.
Don't be surprised if you get requests for copies of paperwork.
I always send TheRed1 console stuff or copies of it if he doesn't have it. He's the console librarian for all of us.
The sound of that early Fisher SS is really good. This one should ripen up nice.
 
DAMMMMNNNNNNNNN!!!!! That is ONE SSSSSHHHHHHHWWEEEEEEEETTTTT CONSOLE!! The Operating Panel is quite Similar to my FUTURA, But the switches are on the TOP Row on yours. And I've got some of the same paperwork(brochures).

Absolutely get the Service manual, then do a recap. It WILL sound so much better. Don't forget the X-Overs in the spkr cabs. Rick @ STEREOMANUALS.COM has it listed in the FISHER #1 repro's page.

When you get the S.M. I'd check the Q9 and Q10 hook up. IIRC they are the BIAS controls for the Transistors. FISHER had a mod where they put in a voltage and heat regulator (varistor?) and it kept the bias voltage within something like 0.10v. If they are hooked up DON'T mess with them unless you have the equipment to do the actual procedure and are familiar with it. 1 wrong twitch and POOF!!!! DEAD OUTPUTS. If they've been disconnected and the mod done, then no problem.
