Thanks. I know there are guidelines for the proper positioning of ports, having to do with wavelengths and distances of the port opening to the side walls and the woofer. I assume this might apply to PRs in some way as well.

I can support the positive comments about the BOFU. They can be a lot better that any $19 (on sale) driver has a right to be.

I performed a "whizzerectomy" on my set, removed the dustcap, added a wooden phase plug and an ND20FB-4 tweeter through ~2 uF cap.

Highly respected driver in the OB community Russ. I don't think you could go wrong using a pair of these with the smaller WGs.
 
Well, things always seem to change on the fly in my garage.

Bill (cable guy) and I have been working on his EV Sentry IIA speakers for the last 3 or 4 Saturdays. We finished them yesterday.

At first it as just dropping the P Audio 416 WG and CD and recapping the existing EV crossovers.

Just doing that resulted in no highs, so then we put in the CD comp section for the WG and at first that sounded really good. We only listened for a short bit like that and called it a day. Last week I assembled one speaker and realized that we were only hearing the EV SP12 woof more or less full range and the WG was not putting any out under about 13khz and even at that, it was very low in volume.

I started looking at all the 2nd order crossovers I could find and could not find one that was even remotely like what we had in hand (origanal EV) I took the wires going to the WG and but com to com, then started shorting out the poss to every connect point on the crossover starting back from the last connect point. At every point, it got louder and louder but only when I ran it full range did it really make any noise. I spent the week trying to figure out what was going on and couldn't.

Bill had the great idea of just taking the loaded Z boards off his OBLA-waves and using them. That was a great idea and work really well. The only issue now is the woof is just a smige louder than the WG as the crossover is for the under 95db woof. We will change that next weekend.

So I guess these did turn out to be real bonified econowaves.

Also we refinished the cabs, painted the baffle boards hammertone black along with all the mounting screws. They turned out really sweet but these pix don't do them justus.

I have all the parts to turn Bill's crossover into the high eff. woof version exept R2. It says 25 ohm and I have 30ohm. What will happen if I use the 30ohm in stead of the 25ohm resistor?
 
OK, I'm finally ready to place my PE order to do a complete build. It is going to be the "standard" kit put into some old RS cabs instead of the trap cabs. I plan on running the boxes sealed instead of ported. Is there any other resistors, caps or whatever that I should order in case I need to do some swapping to bring the best out of the sealed cabs?

I have built several pairs of speakers using the P Audio PHT-416, and it is quite a nice little waveguide/driver. But to the best of my memory, it hasn't been "approved" for EconoWave use yet.

Hi Ross,

The PHT-416 was closeout priced at one of the large speaker dealers, and were so cheap that I bought several pairs of them. Wish it had been another 5 pairs or so. Their US Distributor is Loudspeakers Plus, but it doesn't seem like that is who closed them out about a year or so ago.

It is a really nice little unit, but I crossed them about 2.5 KHz. Don't know if they would play nicely down to 1.6 KHz, in spite of what the P Audio data sheet says.
