Thank-you gentlemen. I think this will be my first econo-wave project then, while I keep my eye out for the perfect deal on the perfect woofers to go in the Sherwood Ravinia cabinets.
But speaking of the Ravinias, would it be some kind of acoustic faux pas to cut the back out, put some 1x1 walnut on the back of all four sides, and put a new back on top of that stuff? If I do that and bring the baffle out flush at the front, I get the box vol up to 2.41 cu ft. Which might be very useful....

Well, I'm just noodling. If I can expand the box a specified amount, I gain a lot of flexibility as to what drivers I might use.

An EconoWave Christmas
My Christmas presents this year were all the parts I needed to build my EconoWaves out of some old PA speakers, and I already have the crossovers finished. I just started a few hours ago. I did the first one and my little brother built the second. I must say, he did a fine job! Better than I did, actually. I'm currently doing some "floor testing" and the first speaker sounds great. I'm listening to it as I type. Both speakers will be FULLY COMPLETED tomorrow. All that's left to do is to cut larger holes in the cabinets and mount the waveguides. I've already named the speakers, and that will be revealed tomorrow, along with pics of the build. Here's a "teaser pic" of my floor test rig.

Introducing...the Peav-e-Wave 112DLs!!! 
Finished them today, and they're sitting behind me right now cranking out Billy Joel. They look and sound absolutely phenomenal. Piano Man sounds unbelievable on these speakers. The new crossover has vastly improved the realism and overall dynamic range of what were just mediocre-sounding PA speakers. I also stuffed the cabinets, resulting in much tighter, cleaner bass. These could easily be the last speakers I will ever need. They ARE that good!
To Zilch, and everyone who contributed to the EconoWave, I cannot thank you enough!

This is what I started with - a completely stock pair of Peavey 112DL speakers:
The first thing I did was to remove the dual 1/4" jacks and install binding posts:
Skip ahead to December 24, a.k.a. Christmas Eve. Crossover components, Dayton H6512 waveguides, and Selenium D220Ti drivers are here! I assembled the crossovers on some wood planks that I had in my garage. Actually, I only assembled one crossover! My little brother did an excellent job with the other. This is what they came out looking like:

Today, my dad and I cut openings for waveguides, installed the crossovers and then the waveguides. Took them inside, and my brother helped me install the horn drivers and stuff the cabinets. Hooked up the woofers, mounted them, and off they go to my room to perform their musical duties.
I cannot believe how these sound. To call them excellent speakers is an understatement. These speakers have changed my idea of what a loudspeaker is capable of. No joke. I have not one complaint about these things. These speakers are just 100% pure awesomeness.

Yay, I'm finally official!

It's hard to believe my new speakers aren't playing right now, but I think I'll put on a record right now.
