My Ewave Build from HPM-150 cabs

I have finally finished. Over the last year and a half I have been gathering the necessary parts. Well today I have finished the assembly and oh my god do they sound great.

For my build I used the following:

Pioneer HPM-150 cabinets
Pyle Pro PPA15 woofers
Selenium D220Ti-8 driver
Pyle Pro PH612 waveguide

My crossover was built from the recommended settings in the Ewave build thread.

I have attached some pics of the during and the final (so far) product. I have some finishing to do, all cosmetics. I need to make up some grills to keep the boys wandering hands off of them.

Have you done any measurements?

When you say recommended values do you mean one of the standard "recipes" or someone mentioned good values for the Pyle 15" woofer (had a quick search in the main thread but didnt't see)?

Thanks for the complements. I have not done any measurements. The values for the crossover was the 8 ohm standard values provided by Zilch. I actually consulted a little bit with him and given the woofer I was using that seemed the best route to go.

This has been a very interesting project to get into. I didn't really know what to expect. I am thrilled with what I have heard so far. I have yet to really test them out. I will get to that soon enough.

Looks great! Did you use the <95dB crossover or the >95dB one? I am just finishing some ewaves with D220/PH612 top and the Dayton Pro 15" and I'm wondering if I should rebuild the crossover to the >95dB version as I have the L-pad all the way up, although it sounds good there.

I went with the <95 dB as the sensitivity of the PPA15s is 90.2 dB. I have to do a little playing with them but for me I only had to turn the L-pad up about half way. I also turned my loudness on the sx-780 off. In order to get good bass on my other speakers I really needed this on, however on these babies that is not needed at all. I also need to get them up off the floor. Is this the woofer you are using: http://www.parts-express.com/1/1/9361-dayton-pa380-8-15-pro-woofer.html If so, then I would definitely go with the >95dB version as the SPL is 98.5 dB.

I bought these cabinets as just that, there were no drivers or crossover. I had the idea of doing the ewave when I saw them for sale. I paid $10 for the cabinets, you can't even by the hardware to build them for that. That is why I had to go with the woofers I did.
 
Just for kicks I modeled the woofer in that box on WinISD - very JBL L100-like looking curve with a big peak around 60hz (kick drum, anyone?)

Power handling to spare.

Looks like a really fun result!

Sweet job on those E-Waves, dude! Those things must thump like nobody's business. How are the mids and highs on those?

Aren't those old, super-thick cabinets the best. My Wharfies have the beefiest, most-solid cabs I've seen in a 12" 3-way (I'm sure there are others out there that are built even better). The sides/top/bottom must be AT LEAST an inch thick (but how much thicker does one need to go on a 12" 3-way speaker-system?). I'm dying to see a pair of Wharfie E-Waves, but only if they had cabs with no drivers - Those Wharfie drivers sound way-too-good to be 86'd. I just picked up some Howard's Restore-A-Finish to bring out the old finish on my W60E's. Can't wait to start, but there's only two problems - 1) I have a cat, so fumes are an issue if I want to do them inside (It IS winter, you know), plus 2) I love the way they sound, and I really-don't feel like unhooking them from my receiver. So what's a guy to do in this situation? My cabs only have a couple water-rings and blemishes - The Howard's is gonna' make them look like new.
