I think I know EXACTLY how to use an oscilloscope (I have 2 !) - but I will be following this thread just in case I learn something new or it jogs my memory about some facet of oscilloscope use that I might have forgotten.

I was not sure how you were going to pull this off but the format that you have chosen is excellent!

Please do cover the safety precautions soon, like attempting to measure the wave form or voltage of the electrical outlet that the scope is plugged in to.

I am very excited to read and follow along while performing the procedures that you outline. It is always wonderful to learn something new.

My hat is off to you sir! The time and effort that you are contributing here will benefit many people for many years to come. I know that I am not alone, but from me to you, a sincere thank you! :thmbsp:
 
Thanks for doing this!! Timing is perfect as my 465B arrived just this morning.

Is there any chance you could add some pictures, especially of the controls? Maybe some arrows pointing to different adjustments and something like "if you see this, do that"? Also, when you get to actually showing how to perform a measurement, pictures could be a great help as newbies like me will probably be trying to duplicate exactly what you're doing.

Also, if you could cover things like dummy loads and signal generators in this context, that would be great too. Would love to see how they are used and what you "see" when you get to a bad connection, source of distortion, etc.

Again, thanks for taking the time to help out a whole bunch of us. Seems like there's a really good book or two in all of this!!

This means I can finally buy a scope and know what I am doing. This is the greatest thing since I learned to solder.

You're doing an outstanding job, DC! Easy for the beginner to understand. Pictures are a good thing. It would be very nice if AK would allow Youtube video embedding.

Nice to read through for a bit of a refresher too. The Air Force taught me on a Tek 2235, so I know my way around them a bit.

At last! I've got one of these and have always balked at spending time with it, because the "how to's" are so confusing.

Could also use a "Stupid Thebes's Guide to Signal Generators".


A welcome and worthy effort. Once I get a chance to spend time with your instructions, you can bet some meaningful questions will follow.
 
Anyone know what happened to the training thread? I was just starting to feel like I might someday understand how to use my o'scope...
 
I'll be back on it soon. I'm unemployed, so I work all the time to meet the bills! :D

Been about a year, hope you found a job or unemployment hasn't ran dry... Thread is very helpful. Add to it at your leisure. Please. :thmbsp:

I'll add my note of appreciation for the work you've already done on the oscilloscope training thread. I hope that things have improved for you and that you'll be able to continue the training thread soon. Your well-being is the most important thing, though. The training thread is a very distant second.
