Virus attack after log in

Any updates on this from the system admins? I am all up to date running antivirus and am still a little nervous to come visit AK.

if it was from AK then everyone would be getting attacked.

Let my preface this by saying I am neither an admin nor a computer expert, so I don't know all the fine details of the work that's been done, that sort of thing is way above my pay-grade.
With that said, here's what I do know:
The problems come from multiple sources, and none of those sources come from within AK, its servers or its native vBulletin software. As sources have been identified (using the reports of those affected), the admins have gone to great lengths to block that source from accessing AK. As these sources have been blocked the frequency of reports has decreased.
It is imperative that anyone encountering these sorts problems in the future, give us as much information as possible about it in this thread, or by contacting any of the moderation staff or admins. By compiling this information we'll be better able to identify where these things are coming from, and stop them.

Good for you, but I have, and I'm probably close to anal as it gets about updates. I'm by no means a computer expert, but neither was I born at night and certainly not last night when it comes to running/maintaining a PC. :thmbsp:

I've had no problems whatsoever.
I have XP sp3. I just did a Windows Update but I have always kept that updated. I also did an Adobe update as well. And, I'm also using Microsoft Security Essentials. But, just to be safe I have disabled scripts for now.

There's got to be some luck involved in not getting viruses, but there's no luck involved in deciding to do backups as well as updates,
I'm not anal about doing backups, but I do an image backup of the C drive at least every six months, and I don't keep documents on C.
I maintain a bunch of computers for companies, and I've never completely recovered a system without doing at least a windows repair/reinstall. there's always something wrong after the virus is removed.
The latest victim is "clean" but the windows search is dead. I will have to do a complete windows reinstall and restore from a System State that is several months old.
Reinstalling windows and programs is a pain, but it guarantees the virus is gone.
After the cleanup, my WIN XP machine can't recognize wireless networks anymore, no reception at all. We've tried various troubleshooting to no avail. If anyone might be able to help troubleshoot, please shoot me a PM so we don't clutter up this thread.

My work computer images once per month and incremental images every day at noon. This I set up on my own because I don't have time to muck around with the corp. IT solution of a complete reload if anything happens or the computer crashes.
I'm not nearly as proactive on my home computer but I do have complete images for clean, clean with all updates, and then I do a complete system image with all my files about every quarter, depending on how much stuff I've added since the last.

Actually, no. First of all the ads rotate and target certain people based on their cookies, and I'm sure it's a small percentage of the ads that are malicious. The browser and version of flash or java you're using can be determined by the script and it may not run if it doesn't detect a platform it can't compromise.

Yeah, that's why I asked for clarification. Turning on the pop-up blocker in a browser won't fix that.
I was able to quite easily clean it off mine by following the bleepingcomputer process that has been mentioned several times.
I did the odd thing is, its all medical stuff in the popups they only happen once on the first thing I click each time I start up and nothing gets rid of it, I even google "popups on first click" and nothing of this sort is happening, I have also been hit twice this time.
