Hi guys,

Just decided to start making the new plynth yesterday from solid Rimu wood.

Had a plank, then cut into right sizes and ticknesses , routed the middle of the inside which I will later will with lead.

The bottom is also a solid piece 10mm thick.

here are a couple of pics:

A solid plinth for these Thorens decks makes a huge difference. You will definitely be satisfied.

I will let you know next weekend. I am thinking about leaving it like this, and just oiling the plynth instead of my first idea, to veneer it... this wood looks way to beautiful to veneer on top... what do you all think?
Thanks

If it was me I would leave the wood natural with a couple of coats of oil or clear satin poly.

Very nice work indeed.

What is the effect on the sound?

cheers, Bob

A solid hardwood plinth seriously reduces vibrations and resonance moving through the entire table. From external sources and from the motor. Makes everything in the sonic character better.

Looking awesome! :thmbsp:

A lot has changed on this table over the two years...
