If he gives you any crap about it, hand him some money and tell him to go buy some MORE power tools.

Now comes the FUN part. Learning how to make sure it's safe to run, or keep running.....If you plan on using it. At minimum take a couple of pictures of the inside of the amplifier chassis, so we can see if it's been worked on or not.

Update your profile with your city and state. One of us might be close by and would be more than happy to come over and look at it real quick to help ensure it's long life.

Here's mine

Here is my 1966 Futura Contemporary in Walnut.
69 T chassis
Dual 1009 turntable

It gets regular use in our family room.Using an XBOX with it for CDs.

Always a hit with company. Lots of comments on how good it looks and sounds. Sometimes disbelief at its ability to play music from CDs, ipods, online sources, etc.

Since Feb. I've managed to accumulate a few more. My signature reflects this.
A 1951 Coronet in the Warwick Cabinet (something like wrigley's in post 16. Her serial is 1079 newer than mine). I found some really close grille cloth thanks to another AK'er, and redid the baffle. No pictureof that yet.

a 1964 Custom Electra VII from Naptown Rob.

A 1959 Series 510 Consolette and a 560 Companion from theRed1 and Buglegirl.

All are working 100% now, except for the 1951 Coronet in AM. The Varible cap is wonky. Need to find a R-3 chassis for a V.C.

My first Fisher

Here's mine. Its an Allegro of the x-190 variety(not sure what the difference between the x-19 and the x-190 is...) but i removed the turntable(probably would work with a new cartridge and a degreasing/regreasing) and it didn't have speakers when I got it. So I play my BSR-built Realistic Lab 24(along with the wife's iPod) through it. It's playing into some newer JBL's. I kinda like it.

According to the www.FISHERCONSOLE.COM site

In 64 and 65 the models were A-9(Phono Only) and A-19(Phono/FM Multiplex).

In '66 the A-19 became the A-190(Phono/FM Multiplex). There was no A-19(phono only).

In '67 the A-190 became the A-192 with a vertical tuner (Phono/FM Multiplex).

I am picking up a Metropolitan tomorrow. I know nothing about it It has a 29-r chassis??? Don't know if it is a good one or not. Is it? It is small. after getting a Concert grand,, I am going smaller!!!!!

Note that the wattage is EIA (Peak TOTAL WATTS) not RMS. RMS is per channel and approx 1/3 of the total EIA. Figure about 25watts per channel on the Metro.

Also The '68 is a lowboy style, and 80 Watts, the '69 is a conventional style and 75 watts although it appears that they use the same chassis.

I don't have a 29-R chassis listed in the database. I have a 29-T listed for the '66 Philharmonic VI (P-291). The '67 Metropolitan (M-4592) used the 21-R chassis; the '69 Metropolitan (M-394) used the 125 chassis and the '70-71 Metropolitan (M-399) used the 20-R. 29-R sounds like a proper Fisher console chassis model number but I've never heard of one before. It's either a very rare chassis or somebody read the number wrong. I'm curious to see what you've got.

As far as determining if it's a good one or not . . . I'll leave that up to you since I've never heard one. It's certainly a solid state model no matter what year Metropolitan you have. The original '67 Met was slotted between the Custom Electra (E-492) and the Regent (R-592), hence the rather strange model number: M-4592. As far as I can determine there was no Metropolitan offered in 1968. The '69 Met (M-394) replaced the '68 Diplomat (D-392) in the slot between the BOTL Philharmonic (P-294) and the Royal Electra (R-494). The '70-71 Met (M-399) somehow fell from grace and became Fisher's BOTL, entry-level console despite its model number being higher than the Philharmonic's. So the earlier your Metropolitan, the "better" it should be.

I saw this console on a midcentury shop in Montclair last week, playing, and it was gone in a few days! SOLD!
Sorry I couldn't get better pics, the shop was small and crowded, it was buried behind furniture and I was in a rush. It looks like it might be a custom fitting.

I have three Fisher Consoles a Royal Electra a Diplomat and a Metropolitan (tiny console) I am working on the diplomat at the moment. Ordered the caps and will recap the power amp as soon as my shipment comes in. Royal Electra sounds wonderful to me and gives my Concert Grand a run for its money to be honest. I am hooked on the Fisher Royal Electra type console and now looking for more.

My Newbie Metro

Here's what I just found at a local Habitat Restore - The Fisher Metropolitan Model M-4592(MD) in Mediterranean pecan cabinet. Has a Dual 1014 (not yet working).
