I've read the book, never seen the film. I just discovered it's available on youtube! Has anyone seen it. I'll be watching tonight or tomorrow. It's supposed to be excellent.

Yes if you're anything of a fan it's well worth watching. It should be available for download on the torrent networks. Old VHS copies now sell for quite a penny on auction sites. I love the scene with Flea when they are eating dinner and recalling a Gillespie chorus. I think overall it helped to show where Baker had arrived in his later years. That said, I don't think it revealed enough about how absolutely amazing his music had become at this point. Yes, he was a fukk up and completely unreliable, but when he had a good night... he had an epic night. My favorite sides are all from his latter years - his trio recordings on Steeplechase and his quartet Live In Tokyo.

I saw that at an art house theater in Kansas City when it first came out. It thought it was great. I would love to see it again to see how my memory of it compares to another viewing.

If you guys have a chance check out the bio, Let's Get Lost. I thought the book was excellent the documentary just ok. Both worthy of your time however. Baker was a very sad and interesting guy much like his contemporary Art Pepper.
