Yamaha c6 with m4?

Hello fellow Yamaha lovers

I presently have the opportunity to add a C6 to my system for good price. It is from a local (45 Miles away) dealer and has been serviced as far as pot & connector cleaning etc.

I have an M4, Integra DSR 7.3 as the CD player, two JBL 4412 Loudspeakers, and a Sansui 3300 Receiver used as the Preamp. I am very pleased with everything except the "Preamp".

The excellent integrated amp I had used prior to needing the M4 and a preamp was destroyed due to a leaking roof. I don't want to talk about it.

I would like to hear the opinions and advice on choosing the C6 for this system, of the seasoned Yamaha dudes here on the forum.

I have owned many fine amps, preamps and more for many years, but I am not very well versed about Yamahas (the M4 is excellent).

Thanks for your consideration and time, Richard.

I use a C-6 at present to drive a B-6 and NS-690's.Great little pre-amp with a super phono pre-amp.

I also had that combo and really enjoyed the sound. Did not like the tone controls of the C6 though which is the only negative thing I will could say about it. FWIW...I would not hesitate to purchase another if the price is right.

Just curious--what was it about the tone controls you didn't like?

Personally. I think it has one of the better parametric EQ's. The C-6 was my mainstay control amplifier for 10 years or so. I bought it new in 1980 or 81.

A C-6 > M-4 > 4412 combination would be something to be very proud of and allow bragging rights!

I had a C-6 years ago and throughly enjoyed it. It's Parametric EQ was one of the thing's that set this Preamp apart from other decent ones of their time and allowed me to pin-point the room node where the Bass was overpowering that most other EQ's, even with all those Bands couldn't do as well. It's Phono Stage is first rate too. These are older unit's though, Perhaps they where out...I don't Know. But I believe New, these were very good Preamps.

I am a bit surprised the Sansui Receiver as a Preamp isn't working out that well. While I've never owned one, by most accounts the Sansui's are no sloutches, which makes me wonder if something else is at play here. But I guess sometimes even good quality componets just don't work well together for various reasons. I Experienced that myself with my Mid-fi NAD Preamp/Tuner that worked well with one Amp, not so well with the other.
